Here is a video I recommend to new players: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUKWeaXZeOY

Also, you might want to buy a scepter. It’s a ranged weapon and lets you keep a distance and control mobs. Once you get higher level, get a focus to go with it as it has a barrier that’s useful when you are low in health.

Make sure you pay attention to the level of the enemies you’re fighting. If they’re much higher level than you, you may want to find your way back to a lower level area.

If you get past all the content in the starter zone for your race, you may want to go to the other starter zones for the other races. It doesn’t slow down the rate at which you get xp, and it’s not as challenging as the next zone can be.

Also, if you’re going into the “downed” state, you haven’t died. You only die if you get into the “Defeated” state.

Enemies have different level in the same map. For exemple at Queensdale (the map), you can fight enemies level 5 at Shaemoor Fields (a part of the map), but if you go at Godslost Swamp (another part of the map) enemies will be level 18. Each map have a level range. For queensdale its 1-17 that mean that you shouldn’t go in this map until you are level 1 but there is enemies that you probably won’t be able to kill until you are level 17. So what out the level of enemies and if they are too high for you, go at another part of the map.

Also, if you go straight from heart to heart you’ll end up falling short on levels.

Even guardians have to dodge; no profession is designed to let you just stand there and soak up damage. It takes a lot of muscle memory training — well for me it did, plus I got a Naga Hex so I could dodge via mouse buttons — but eventually you learn when to tumble away from massive damage.

If your foe is channeling something big, get out of where the hit’s going to land (eg ettins and drakes get all shimmery right before a club smash or poison breath, all you need to do is move away from in front of them because they won’t turn to face you until they’ve shot their big burst).

If you want to pick up some easy levels, go to each City and clear it just takes some time (about 15-30 min per city):

  1. Go into your home city and travel to all the Points of Interest and Waypoints and view all the Vistas. Visit the speed boost NPCs.
  2. Find the portal to Lions Arch and travel there.
  3. Either Clear Lions Arch (per above) or move on to other racial cities and clear them.

I think I started this at near LVL 3 and was LVL 11 when I got thru clearing all the cities. You also get some gold and a Transmutation charge for each clearing.
