Clear noob questions, so please bear with me if you have heard this ten thousand times. For me, it’s the first.

1) Does server time actually mean anything? The server I seem to be on had its server time something like 8 hours ahead of where I am. Does that really matter? Am I playing when everyone else is asleep? Or is server time like GMT? Some common reference point? If so, then why so far ahead since the server is an NA server?

2) Coming from World of Warcraft (you can already see the question coming), how is end game? I’ve been conditioned to “keep improving” my character, but I understand GW2 doesn’t have a gear chase, per se.

End game is to make yourself look pretty.

There are some very fun things to do at level 80 though, just no real gear treadmill where you’re constantly getting better gear to destroy content you may have stuggled on before. That doesn’t happen, the only thing that will make something easier is playing better and once you get your gear, you’re good. (thre is ascended, for a small upgrade as something to work on, but nothing above that)

Server time doesn’t really mean anything, and people play 24/7 so whatever timezone you are you’ll find people, though of course normal NA prime time is a bit busier in general (like 6-12 eastern)

With the expansion you’ll start earning mastery points once you’re max leveled. You can use mastery points to level various abilities or features depending on which ones are important to you and will help you play the content you enjoy.

1) Server time is UTC/GMT. So the Dailies reset occurs at Midnight in London, 8p on the East Coast of the US and 5p on the West Coast of the US. Store sales are synced to West Coast US time and tend to end Midnight there.

2) End game. LOL. That’s a good one. ROFL. Seriously if you are looking for organized raids for BIS loot every night, this isn’t your game so don’t bother rushing to 80.

That should be interesting to try.

Not BIS per se. Just a challenge. I’d hate to defeat The Big Monster and then be done.

You’ll get a good 5-6 months of challenging content, then you’ll tire of what’s there, maybe come back to do stupid stuff to make it harder on yourself to revitalize the fun, and then become a grumpy person on the forums.

Really though, dungeons/fractals fun stuff, decent challenge until you learn them thoroughly, then you pug them, and watch people screw up the tactics you learned that made them easy, so it gets challenging again, then you master that, and then maybe start to solo stuff, then maybe even try a naked lupi solo using only warrior dodge damage.

Other than defeating The Big Monster every night. Outside the PvE world proper there’s PvP, WvW (think capture the flag with mobs and siege weapons), Fractals which get harder as you advance, crafting the BIS armor and weapons which is a huge time sink.

Also attempting to earn as much gold as possible because a lot of loot in the game is sold on the TP by players who don’t want them. If there’s a lot a interest and not a lot of items, it can get rather expensive. Also the game allows you to spend gold to get gems (the faux currency that’s used in the game’s cash shop) instead of needing real cash. But the rate floats and is currently around 14-15g per 100 gems, which is also a $1.25 in gems, but when something in high demand is listed at the store, the rush to convert can push that up quite high. At the start of the year a sale caused a rush that ended up with an exchange rate over 18.5g per 100.
