From what I read there is no “Win” profession, which is why I am going to do S&T-PvP in this game. So I hope I can get some solid answers from “You”, the community. Also, I’m not expecting one to answer every single question as many answers may apply to any of them.

The questions I have, I will try to ask as clearly and simple as possible. Also, I ask that only people who are serious about answering my questions comment below. Whether the questions can or can’t be answered 100%, answering them in a constructive manner is much appreciated.

NOTE: I am still quite new to the game & don’t exactly have a full grasp on most of the terminology.

1.] For Structured-PvP. which professions can play a huge part in “Support” game-play & what are the “Unique” differences among them that separate them from the rest.

-Please have an elaborate explanation of a profession’s weapon compositions, builds & skills.

————————————————————————————————————————————-
2.] For Structured-PvP, can I expect any professions to be singled out when competing on a serious level? If so, why?

-Please have an elaborate explanation of a profession’s inability/or/lack-of to perform at high ranking S&T-PvP

————————————————————————————————————————————-
3.] For PvE, I love farming items. It was my main focus in Guild Wars 1, because it felt like my 3-D MMO styled “Diablo” game. So in other words, can solo farming for items be rewarding? Can you find exceptionally great items solo?

Ultimately I know that in any MMO, playing a class/profession that I enjoy is most important. This post serves a higher purpose to me on the grounds that your knowledge of what I am asking about, may act as a stepping stone.

Thanks in advanced,

I am not an experienced sPvP or tPvP player so I’ll let others answer your two first questions. As for the third one, I feel I know exactly what you are seeking for, as I am quite a Diablo fan as well. The truth is, you won’t find this kind of item hunt in Guild Wars 2.

The game was designed with the intent of avoiding vertical gear progression, meaning that at max level, the best items are all equal in term of stat bonus. Take any exotic weapon, it will have three stats bonuses. Though the stats combination vary, the amount will not. See this page of the wiki for more information.

On the other side, I have learnt to love the progression that is offered in this game. Here you work for the look only. Run dungeons to have enough tokens to trade against a better looking armor or weapon. Wearing the best gear in the game is easy, the best looking is not, as subjective as look might be. On a side note, farming for items in the open world won’t reward you with exceptionally great looking items.

Try it for yourself, see if it suits you. I like it, but it’s a different enjoyment from finding a piece of an armor set.

1. The Guardian and the Elementalist are considered to bring the biggest support to the team.

Guide for a Support-Guardian:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cg1pxWk8MSw

In this video, the author is talking about the “bunker”-role of a guardian and everything you need to do in order to run the build. “Bunker” is a specc that is very tanky and can absorb lot of dmg (blocking, healing, boons). The idea is to support the team with your f1-3 skills and shouts and trying to get focused by your opponents, while the rest of your team can deal damage with a lesser risk of being catched.

List of several Elementalist-Builds:

Here is a list of some very well described videos about elementalist and its different roles. I think there is enough content and specific details to allow you getting a good overview of the class and what part it has in PvP.

2. Nearly every proffession can be singled out.

Some guy made a post with some collected builds. Pretty good to start with.

Overall every class can take a certain role in PvP. However, Hotjoin servers allow more freedom. There you can nearly play whatever you want, as the main goal is not winning but having fun.
In the more organized PvP, the TPvP or Tournament-PvP, organisation and class-roles are much more important. I recommend to watch some higher level play.

I recommend to watch some streams and vids on youtube, where you can get an idea how to perform.

Good luck and I hope I could help!

1.] For Structured-PvP. which professions can play a huge part in “Support” game-play & what are the “Unique” differences among them that separate them from the rest.

The most viable option for support would likely fall to Guardian, which has lots of area of effect buffs (giving teammates access to Stability, Protection, Retaliation, among other things). Its ally healing isn’t quite as strong as Elementalist, but they rely more on prevention than restoration.

Staff and Hammer provide area control, each with a Ward that prevents non-Stability enemies from passing through. Staff provides little for personal offense, but can give a substantial team damage boost with its ability to give might, while Hammer does reasonably offensively, with point blank aoe protection from the auto attack. Hammer also fits more into the control with an immobilize and a launch.

2.] For Structured-PvP, can I expect any professions to be singled out when competing on a serious level? If so, why?

Warriors are generally regarded as the worst PvP profession, because their profession is vastly more straightforward than other options. This means that their options are predictable, and while they can be devastating if they catch their opponent making a mistake, to win often requires their enemy to make that error. They have good mobility, but lack stealths, teleports, and have extremely limited invulnerability frames. They are still viable, but they are not nearly as effective as other pressure can be, especially given their affinity to melee instead of ranged combat.

3.] For PvE, I love farming items. It was my main focus in Guild Wars 1, because it felt like my 3-D MMO styled “Diablo” game. So in other words, can solo farming for items be rewarding? Can you find exceptionally great items solo?

For reference, a Legendary Weapon costs from the range of 1000 to 2000 gold.

Some of the most sought after and expensive drops you can get, precursors (a component of a particular Legendary) can range from 30 gold to 700 gold, and can be dropped from literally any enemy in the game that can drop level 80 loot. That said, they have an incredibly low drop rate (and can be obtained a small amount of other ways). So it is possible to get exceptionally great items alone.

On the other hand, a much more consistent method of making money is farming the quickest available dungeon with the most damaging team composition possible, which requires 5 people. This method can quite easily make 5 gold an hour, all the while providing chances (through chests/enemy kills) at the same precursors.

There are not too many areas with great options to farm in the open world, and those that get too popular are systematically nerfed.
