Why does the game download 40mb every day, some setting i could change that will stop that download?

Sure. Dont log in as the 40 mb is the updates there pushing for bug fixes and game improvement.

Does it matter? It takes like 2 seconds.

The updates are small, and fix storyline quests, guild and party problems, UI glithces, and such items. It’s best to take them, it takes only a few moments!

Not for people without superfast broadband it doesn’t.

If you’re worried about bandwidth, I’m not sure why you are, as 40mb a day is really small.

Stop complaining about some minor issue, back in my day 40mb would take 16 hours – and that was assuming no-one used the phone during that time..

It’s usual for MMOs, you need to download the patches, and they’ve been fixing things everyday and applying them daily instead of making you wait for a big patch. My internet is rather slowish as well, the way I usually do it is to open the patches before going to work in the morning, or when I get home before I go have lunch, that way the game is ready and patched anytime I want to play.

Not to rub it in or anything. But those downloads take me less than a minute…..

that’s 1MB/minute, 16KB/second, or 133kbps

Those are updates/fixes that are applied and are often outlined here:

They usually update it daily with any changes made. These patches improve your gaming experience and are needed to connect.

At least you haven’t just got the game… 250MB so far and I am 4% complete with the download… O.o

Other games will shut the whole game down for 8-12 hrs while they fix things. I much prefer this method.

I usually only get ~600kb/s, sometimes less if other people are using the internet, too.

The thing is… it doesn’t even take that long on that slow a connection. I open the client, watch the red line zip to 100% and play – it usually takes less than 3 minutes. That’s not really a big deal.

Sucks if you have even slower internet, but this is just how changeable on-line games work – the latest WoW patch was several Gb and their servers go down a good part of the day every Tuesday… so… yeah.

I’m on a college connection now, where hundreds of other people are using it, ye I don’t have a problem downloading everything at all.

Bug fixes are important part of an MMO growing, give it time and these will go away as the game becomes more refined.

The short answer is no. You have to download those updates because your client version must match the server version, otherwise you will be unable to connect and play.

You should assume that, for the next few weeks, there will be an update every day at midnight PDT, give or take.

You can arrange to run an update at any time before that.

See Command-line arguments on the wiki to setup a shortcut (so the launcher grabs the update and quits). You can also use the Task Scheduler to do this automatically at a time of your choosing (e.g. while you sleep or have dinner).

Yes you see some of us live in Africa, sure the politics is fun and the culture is interesting but the internet bandwidth sucks.

Or you can live in a back road with nothing but DSL. I have a 786kb/s connection, that downloads at 1/10th of that….

You want to stop the updates? Thats fine and all but you can’t play. Just load the game check your email and it should be sorted, whats the big deal?

I’ve pretty fast internet so it hasn’t ever taken me longer then the ‘5-second auto log in’ but I really can’t imagine that this would be a problem.

If it really would be then you might want to consider getting a better isp because even mobile net is more then fast enough to download this in no time.

Well if you’re download that 40mb that slow then you have better things to worry about than trying to play games

Updates will slow down in a few days/weeks or so.
