Soon I’ll reach the 5k AP mark. I was thinking what to do with those 400 gems.
Bank or inventory space I dont need. Also none of those skins buyable for gems I like.

So my best idea so far was spending 450 gems on 5 black lion keys to get black lion claim tickets or scraps. The BL weapon specialist has some weapon skins that look appealing to me. Now Im pretty sure the drop rate of those aint the highest, but how many black lion claim ticket scraps can drop from one BL chest?
Can I gather enough stuff from 5 BL Chests to get a skin from the BL weapon specialist or is this lottery level likeliness?

No…its 99.9999999999999999999999% certain you will not get a skin.

Don’t. It’s extremely unlikely you will be able to get a skin, the drop rate is insanely low.

It’s already a rare chance to even get a scrap (which 10 will make one ticket), let alone a ticket on its own. Whatever was done about how black lion keys used to commonly be randomly obtained as a reward from black lion chests, it was pretty much removed.

I wouldn’t do it. The chance you can get one ticket is extremely low.

When they released the Zodiac skins I was super excited. For the first time in a year a put money into keys, hoping to get a ticket without researching drop rates. I opened 10 boxes, and got one scrap. Not ticket, but a scrap. So assuming the false odds of 1/10 for a scrap, it would theoretically take 100 boxes to get a ticket.

So, take the advice of this thread. If you want the skin, just exchange those gems from the AP box for gold and save the rest for the skins directly off the TP (if they’re available).

But then again hey, if there’s nothing else you want to do with them… at least you’d get some boosters.

I actually opened 10 of them and got one whole ticket and a couple scraps.

A month ago, I spent $50 to get enough for a ticket to purchase an the Aetherized weapon skin. I hope this helps you make your decision.

it’s how many chests to get one scrap. 5 chests you’d be lucky to get 1 scrap. 10 scraps for a skin = you need somewhere around 100-200 chests.
do not buy keys in hopes of one of the things they give. If you buy them, it’s because you want /everything/ they give. they are not priced right for that lucky drop, they are priced for the average drop. meaning that if you buy 10,000 keys, the sum of everything you get could of been purchased with the gems it took those 10,000 keys (cost of boosters, merchant contracts, BLSK, etc.)

It should be noted that $50 for the aetherized skin is probably relatively good luck (and that’s when they were 1/5 what they now cost). If all you care about is the skin (and so can’t really give much value to the other chest contents that you’d be receiving) it tends to be tremendously cheaper to convert gems to gold to buy the skins on the trading post if they’re available.

Plus, when you convert gems to gold, you (theoretically) help keep down the price of gold-to-gems for everyone else. Won’t somebody think of the freebie children!

Gathering tools are back for 7 days only (granted, they may choose to bring them back again at a later date because I have to imagine they sell reasonably well) so if you’re interested you’ll have to come up with the extra gems now.

You’ll also get another 400 at 10k, another at 15k, …
For 400 gems I would get an extra inventory slot.
