A Little Player Recognition Please?
I also have little interest in an ‘examine’ feature, although what the OP might be after to some extent is titles – is there a title for finishing personal story? OP, you can select from titles you have earned on the achievements panel, top left, and the one you pick will display under your character name.
When you click on someone (or when they click on you) I think it shows your down-levelled current level, if you’re in a lower zone. I got picked out as a high level character in Kessex Hills because of my armour though, haha. Clicking also shows character name, profession, and the name of your guild if you’re in one; if you’re not, your character won’t have a guild tag (like [this]) after their name, so people can tell you’re not in a guild, or not representing one.
the only stats that matter to me are mine,
i really dont care what anyone else has done.
That is/was a feature in Everquest. If you were checking out a player’s gear, they got a notification about it. By the reactions of some, you’d think you were trying to peek in their pants!
Personally I don’t really care what a player has, just about what I have
You can’t turn it on, or off, for yourself. Other players are always able to see the same info about you as you can about them. The only option you have in this regard is whether other players names are always displayed or off until you hold down a key (I think it’s ctrl or alt by default) or mouse over them.
When other players click on you they can see your name, your guild name and tag, your level (current if down/up levelled), your profession, your title if you’ve chosen to display one and if you’ve got 100% world completion a little star as well.

Personally I would like the oppertunity to see more info on other characters. I’d like to be able to see what choices they made at character creation (maybe the entire ’I’m Xyz’ page of the Personal Story’).
I would also say the entire first page of the Hero panel, but I have a feeling that even though ‘gear score’ doesn’t really matter in GW if it was possible to see it a lot of people would suddenly get very picky about who they allowed into their parties and that would definately out-weigh the benefits.
But what I’d really like is a blank profile page that we can write whatever we want in, like UO had (has?). So RPers could do an in-character introduction with their background, both the choices they’ve made and stuff they’ve made up, other people could put what dungeons they like to run, or what other activities they enjoy, or just a general intro to themselves.

^ Pretty interesting idea, can also be used a social icebreaker.
Some more player recognition would be nice as at the moment, you’ve completed your personal story and it’s meh, move on with the rest of the world. No credits? Pretty anti-climatic compared to GW, then again I felt the story wasn’t as well written or made as it could be.

I think it is sad that the only title recognition (icon over head) is ‘Commander’ if you BUY the book; your guild if you join a guild; and/or a Star (which I will have soon I think but NEVER see) when I finish the world 100%.
I like the blank page angle too with some guidance as to what goes in it I suppose.
I also want a choice/means to turn on what everyone else sees over my head so I can see it too.
Further more buying the ‘Commander’ icon is pretty dump imo if you haven’t earned it but the 100 gold. On the other hand earning it by finishing up My Story, like I have, should be given out free!
Nuff said…I’m getting warmed up and kitten off.
They’re not the same type of “Commander” so I would disagree because a WvW commander definitely shouldn’t get a commander title from completing the personal story. While the money system isn’t optimal, other systems are too easily abused or are just as arbitrary as money.
While I can get on board that the commander title is rather silly when not in WvW, I can’t agree that people who completed the personal story should get anything special showing that they did. It’s not exactly difficult to complete the personal story and I would guess that the vast majority of players have done so already, which means most people would be running around with the same thing. Not very distinguishing or impressive when everyone has it.
Being able to see into other people profile page would lead to even more elitism than the current state of game. You wouldn’t be asked to “link” your gear, you’d be outright ostracized by certain groups of people who find your playstyle not hardcore enough. And then you’d see whining.
Finishing the personal story isn’t such an achievement that I want to see every person who’s done it displaying a bright little icon everywhere they go. I am a casual player and I fully intend to finish personal story multiple times over with different characters. If I can do it easily enough, it’s not so rare or difficult that it needs to be highlighted like that.
I would like to a see a summary at the end of each dungeon. Ever played Left 4 Dead? That would be great. For example outlining how much each player contributed, in terms of DPS, support/healing and damage taken in relation to times downed. Because let’s face it in the heat of battle, you’re hardly noticing what the other people are doing. Support characters are rather under appreciated IMO, most people just look at how much health things lose when you attack them and whine about how little immediate damage you do compared to their glass cannon (my experience anyway.)

If someone wants to show their gear it can be linked but it is only a small part of the story. The best gear means nothing with a bad build ie traits and chosen skills. It should be all of those things or nothing. What is the point of only looking at gear?
Share the gear and skills/traits page in the Hero Panel or nothing.
Seems like a lot of hard work to replace the “link” method. I would rather the team spends time on bugs, LFG panel, content and so on. Bottom of the list of things to do please.
With regard to the Combat Analysis thing. Modify the Combat info we get and/or add a function to log chat etc. If we have a log maybe it could be imported to an analysis tool afterwards. Players should be able to choose whether or not to share the info they have IMO.

I disagree with the popular sentiment here. I REALLY wish we could have an inspect option of other peoples gear. Not for the stats so much, but to be able to see what exactly the gear is they’re wearing. I’m starting to see quite a few really cool looking threads on some toons lately and I’d really like to see what what pieces they used to bring it together. Obviously I’d prefer it to name the original piece of gear, not what they might have xmuted it into. Currently the only way to find out is to ask, and that’s rather bothersome and probably annoying to the other player. Some players have had some really nice gear sets with some exotics, but I’ve seen a lot of players just using auction house rares coupled with some really interesting color patterns put together some really good costumes. If you want to keep the elitism out of it, then just don’t have it show the stats.
I dont know what you guys are talking about, but if a system like that exist it must have a optioin to tick off “Show my gear”.
Just wondering who is the showoffer who wants an option like that? :<
Go ahead… Talk about gear. It was never my interest or my mention. All I wanted was some title recognition for a player finishing up My Story. Maybe something for finishing PvE and WvW poi, vista, hearts, skill challenges? But NO, the OPs content doesn’t interest any of you at all. You’d rather hi-jack the thread and talk about kittening gear or how easy the game was for you then concern yourselves with gamers who are/were interested in the GW2 story and adventure and some tough times they had finishing it with Anet not giving a rat’s kitten of recognition. Thanks a lot. I won’t have to revisit this place often until a major expansion or GW3 comes out. Seriously Anet—just skip the Solo gaming next time. Just leave the whole thing MMO only. That’s all your die-hard fanboys care about! That and their kittening gear—always their kittening gear!
And for all that why should I take part in any Wintersday activities—to spend real money in your fantasy world when I don’t get any visible recognition for my accomplishments? But a guild commander gets to spend 100 gold on a blue icon over his head jumping around with a sword bigger then he is.
Someoooooooooones mad. Also you do infact get a little star thing next to your name showing that you’ve reached 100% world completion. Apart from that there is no need to show recognition for easily accomplishable tasks. Most lvl 80s have finished their story, so you’re asking for everyone to have the exact same “recognition” what on earth would be the point of that? Congratulations you finished the storyline, nobody cares.
