so, i just played this game. I still don’t have any 80s toon.
what i confused is, i stuck in choosing between classes that i will play it till 80 first. i confused which class can farm well in 80 (open world PvE and dungeons)

the classes that i am confused are:

1. Necromancer —- i love the minions and the staff condition skills, it’s easier to kill mobs but it takes time,, yeah not too much but it’s slower than a raw damage class.

2. Guardian —- i love the toughness of this class and ability to buff and support.

3. Ranger —- leveling with pets and long bow, almost never get hit by the mobs but it’s a bit slow.

4. Thief —- stealth and burst damage,, fast killing,, but a bit squishy.

5. Mesmer —- illusions, phantasm, and utilities are super cool. but it takes time to kill mobs.

6. Warior —- high damage and can tank pretty well,,, but a bit boring playstyle,,, slash slash slash dead slash slash slash dead,, repeat till doomsday.

my playstyle:
- I love face-paced battle (hit n run, so it’s like the battle just happen in seconds, ninja style, lol)
- i love mobility (passive fast movement speed, not perma)
- Great survivability (hard to die, not squishy as hell)

how is your opinion? what class that suits my playstyle the best but also for lv 80 PVE (dungeons and open world). i just don’t care about pvp because it’s belong to each player skill, how they play the class.

please, very very please don’t answer “just play what you like”, i need advice..

I have leveled a Guardian and a Mesmer to 80 (so that’s my insight below).

I leveled the Guardian up first… which I do not regret (even though I only play him occasionally).

The Guardian had plenty of toughness/survivability. No, he couldn’t kill as quickly as some other classes (including my Mesmer)… but from 1-75 he could jump in the mob and just start swinging and walk out with no issue.

The Mesmer is NOT really fun until level 80. It is very hard to level as they are very squishy. The addition of the Exotic level 80 armor stats will greatly increase his awesomeness.

The Mesmer does have some of the most awesome skills and very useful in dungeons… Portal Entre / Exit , TimeWarp, Blink

Guardian is probably the most useful if you want to jump into group content. Done right you’ll be almost unkillable solo. Downside is things slow down at higher levels; you don’t do damage very quickly. No passive movement buff either.

IMO my 80 Ranger is my favorite for just farming. Longbow gives you some of the best range in the game with traits (tied with grenade ENG, which I also like) and is good for tagging enemies in events. Then I use either greatsword or axe/torch for melee, which are decent enough in terms of pace for me. In addition it seems like it’s the easiest/most painless solo experience I’ve had with any character, even in Orr. Ranger has passive movement signet which is nice for jumping puzzles and the like as well. You just have to get comfortable managing your pets, which really isn’t so bad.

I personally prefer guardian when I mass farm. They have good survivability and the ability to quickly pull mobs to them for a quick kill.

It really comes down to what you plan to farm, your play style, and which class you enjoy playing the most. I know that’s what you don’t want to hear but it’s true.

What about ele’s ? It’s fast paced, can’t stand still or you are doomed. Positioning during the fight is important since it’s a light armor class. Have to switch between attunements during fights (for applying those 25 max stack multipliers). Can make his own finishers (first draw a line of fire and shoot some earth projectiles through it).
If it get’s rough, you can heal with water attunement.
Based on the weapon (scepter/focus) you choose you have two shielding spells (earth = invunerable, fire = shield of fire).
Staff = bit more options to heal.
Once lvl 30, you can unlock the firesword spell (I prefer this above the hell hounds.).
