I was an idiot and leant on my keyboard while trying to squish a mosquito =_= Apparently this caused me to spam gibberish in the chat and now I can’t use the chat at all. How long before I’m allowed to chat again?

If you send messages too frequently (unspecified), subsequent messages will be blocked for an undetermined (and possibly variable) length of time with “Your message was suppressed due to excessive messaging.” displayed in your chat window.

to ellaborate more. there are two important reasons to supress. The first is too prevent ‘childish’ players (or in your case unpractical players) being too annoying before GM’s can take measures. The second reason is to stop goldspammers. If the exact time off the supression is known, it would lead to the goldspammers to program the spambots to counter the supressions.

Also guild recruitment spammers. It doesn’t stop them but it does stop them filling up the whole bar.

As for how long until you can chat again as far as I can tell it varies depending on a number of factors. How similar your messages are definitely affects it (for example saying ‘thanks’ over and over will get you blocked sooner and for longer than switching it up with ‘ty’ or ‘thank you’ every so often).

It also seems to be affected by how many other people are talking. If chat is fairly busy you have to be literally spamming to get blocked, if it’s quiet you can say 2 things, 10 minutes apart, and that might set it off.

I’m not sure what else might be involved, those are just my observations.

well sometimes it also seems random, i pulled out my brrom and said “sweep” 3 times and got supressed xD anet doesnt like roleplay i guess

repeating same message 3 times gets you suppressed. how is that random?

is that definite though? i cant confirm it from my desk but i think ive said something more than 3 times before.

Just rezone and you should be able to chat again.
