A few questions from one downloading the game
Class balance is pretty good. Rangers are very capable to play the game from a beginner to an intermediate level. In end game stuff they can be helpfull for almost any party, but not outstanding. The reason is that it is a an easy class to master. Where for example an engineer is harder to play, but for e.g. end game a good engineer can excell more.
No you cant keybind skills, but there are only 10, so 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-0 are the keys.
Bout bosses and lvl’s and groupsizes. hmmmm this is difficult to explain. best is to not worry bout it. You are downscaled if an area is below your own level. most bosses are aprt of an event. normal events use a scaling system for the amount of players participating. some special events (called group-events) are not scaled for the group size participating and need a good amount of players.
You can transmutate any piece of gear. you need a transmutation stone (consumed on use) to transmutate end game gear (above level 79) you need a rarer and more expensive kind of stone.
Legendary’s are aqcuired by playing very very very long. Best is to start playing, check the wiki after 1-2 weeks of playing and if you have any questions then I’ll answer it. I made an manual for my guild’s forum and it is bout 500 words, to describe one legendary’s shoppinglist and istruction on how to acquire everything and put it together.
Crafting: yes it can matter. Not really for gold making. but again dont worry, you can change later on for a very small fee of ingame gold. so again better to just try the game and understand the mechanics
Welcome and success
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Rangers are fun. My level 80 is a ranger.
I’ll only touch on a few of your questions that I will answer differently.
You can go into options and change your keybinds.
I use 1 through 4 for skills 1 through 4 on my skillbar and then use C for skill 5 as I find it easier to reach than the number 5 in the top row. I use Q, E, and R for skills 7, 8, and 9 as I use WASD to move and those are easy to reach with my hand there. I have skill 6 (the heal) and skill 10 (the elite) and the dodge-roll on my mouse. So basically you can configure your keys to be more convenient.
Bosses:
Veterans are more challenging to kill than regular mobs so keep an eye out for them. Most but not all Champions you need a group to take on. The safest thing to assume is that you need a group when you see a champion. Other than that it varies with the specific species you are dealing with or even the specific boss. You automatically down level to the content. As an example, there is a champion centaur that you can sometimes find in Ascalon settlement that is very easily taken down with just a few players. There is a solo giant that can be found in a town (don’t remember the name) in the charr area that is much more challenging to take down.
