Hi. I’m Raff, a 16 year old boy from India. I currently do not go to school and have a lot of free time, due to the fact that I have taken a break because of my thyroid condition. ( no i dont want to end up homeless so I will go to school when the next academic year starts! ) I have been away from GW2 for quite a long time now. I’m not a veteran, in fact, I haven’t been able to do anything at all. My highest level character was level 25! I’m not sure what it was, maybe it was the whole MMO thing, but I did have a level 40 character on LotRO. Hah, but then again, I had a friend who’d help me out or we would roleplay, not to mention lag didn’t matter there. Here, oh boy. It could be my old connection, Tikona net. ( Indian ISP. ) I’ve switched to MTNL now, my local ISP. It’s much more stable. I used to get 60-80 kB/s download speed! Now I get a solid 120 kB/s! Yay. ( although this wouldn’t seem much to most people here, lol. )

So, my question to you is, how do you go about solo’ing this game?! I mean, my friends aren’t even interested in leaving League of Legends or DotA. I play both of them, and have been for the past few months. In fact, I’ll have played them for a year come October. I’m tired of the community and lag / DC’s etc. So, I’ve decided to give MMOs another shot! I tried playing WoW’s free trial…but..ugh, I don’t know. First the lore drew me in, then the atmosphere. But then I just got bored of the repetitive stuff. I didn’t even get close to level 20. While in GW2 there was repetitive stuff too, but I find the combat much better. Even though I used to lag. I believe I played on an NA server, too. It’s obvious that I would lag. I believe my first “main” was a warrior here. Level 25, then dumped! Because I was interested in something else.

My mesmer hit somewhere around level 10, dumped. Same with hunter / ranger, probably same with my last mage. I cannot make decisions! So that’s me, I’d like to know what changes have been made in the past 2 years, major ones, obviously. To the classes and what not. I heard there was….yeah no, I didn’t hear anything actually. I was too busy with League. So I’d like all the help I can get. What are your tips for a newbie? I tried socializing, but to no avail. Everyone was either busy or just said “hi” we asked each other how are you, then we went around to kill a few monsters and that was it, never saw each other again! Even though we added each other to our friend list. I’m just looking for a few friends to play the game with.

I’ve experienced that playing alone is quite dull. My GMT is +5:30. I’m interested in someone who is new and has a similar timezone. Why not an old player? Well, then it’s like you’re asking someone to go through something again and again, and I believe they’d rather just rush it than experience everything as a new player. OH, and did I mention my old HD 7770 exploded and I had to revert back to my GT 610? Yeah, that’s gonna suck. I’ll have to play on low graphics ;(. Aaand I’m really shy in real life! Well, I don’t know whether I’d term it “shy” but I get nervous and feel dizzy when I see crowds and stuff. Being an Indian, you’d see why it’s a problem xD.

Well, first of all, let’s get the off-topic out of the way.

If you get “nervous and dizzy” when you see crowds, two things come to mind (mind you, I’m no psychologist so I can’t say if either are applicable to you, or if there are other causes). If it’s just being around large masses of people, it may be due to agoraphobia – a fear of packed public places, or just public places in general. There are treatments for this, through gradual exposure and in severe cases antidepressive medicine. If you think you’re suffering from this, mention it to a doctor/psychologist and they’ll help you with the correct procedure.

On the other hand, if it’s strictly the act (or thought) of socializing with people you don’t know well, it may be a simple case of you being an introvert. This is a personality trait rather than a diagnose, so if you are, don’t worry about it. I’m an introvert myself, and I can’t say I’ve ever suffered from it. Introverts usually prefer to be alone rather than in groups, they usually have very few friends but really good ones, and usually require less daily social interaction than their counterparts, the extroverts. Extroverts are pretty much the complete opposite – they’re group people, with large friend circles, and could often spend the entire day on the phone or just hanging out if possible.

Of course, like I said, there’s absolutely no guarantee that either of these apply to you. It’s just the two that come to mind given what you said.

In regards to your question about soloing, it’s not too hard. It depends entirely upon what you like to do. If you like crafting, you can get experience by doing that. The same with gathering. If exploring is your thing, completing maps is a very efficient way to level. If you like the competitive stuff, try WvW – that also gives you experience. In short, if there’s anything you like doing in GW2, it’ll get you closer to level 80. Why not mix and match? If you get bored of exploring, do some crafting, and then hop into WvW for a while. My personal leveling method is map completion (doing any events I come across along the way), with Personal Story interspersed to keep it from getting too dull.

Finally, feel free to add me as a friend. While I’m not playing that much right now, and prone to rather long hiatuses (hiatusi? Sounds Japanese), I never turn down a friendly chat, and it really does help make the leveling process that much quicker.

I will add you to my friend list!

Thanks for the tips.

Sadly, it will be a while until the game’s downloaded. Around 4 GB’s been done now. I don’t know why, but I couldn’t keep it on overnight. I mean, before going to bed I made sure it was running. When I woke up, I didn’t see the client. I went to the folder and noticed the Gw2.dat file size had increased. I opened the client, it said 266,853 remaining. It went down from 285,(something) .

I’ve posted a thread on the Support section. It’s nice to see friendly people who actually read introductions rather than just being all “TL;DR”.

About the phobia, I don’t believe I have such a condition, but I’m sure that I’m an introvert. It doesn’t really bother me either.

Thanks, again!

^First thing first edit your first post and remover your name from it for safety reasons now about socializing in game ask question start conversations about other games chances are some people will be interested to talk about it and enter a casual guild there is so much socializing there that you will get bored of it. About the speed of you download and patching is simple you internet speed is sucking but I heard is normal only a few countries are blessed with fast and very fast internet speed.

Hey Raff. I’m 24 years old and I come from Poland. I really enjoyed reading your post. I only bought the game yesterday and now I’m waiting for it to be downloaded. Which makes me angry because I can’t wait to play. Too bad we can’t play while downloading.

Would you mind telling me what region/realm have you picked? We could play together sometimes or just chat.

Hope to hear from you soon. Cheers!
