I used to play WoW a few years back and back then there were several useful addons developed for it to make the interface better, streamline a lot of processes (like finding out which party members need healing), not to mention the ever-useful quest helper.

Now GW2 has a pretty good interface. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate its stock interface a 7 or so. However it lacks a few things like a good LFG interface, way to select overflows, ability to locate resource nodes that are far away or get data on what type of resources the zone’s nodes give, etc.

Can GW2’s interface be extended or improved through addons? And if so what is the best place to get them from?

Personaly, i don’t think that Anet will add something like this. I suppose that it was their main idea, to make one, clear, useful and generaly all-in-one interface. I don’t miss anything except preview in TP and sth like minor fixes. Hope that Anet team will not allow us to use addons

What Parvil said.

They aren’t going to allow 3rd party add-ons but they will add features over time if they prove popular and/or useful and aren’t going to cause problems.

WoW specially designed their engine to be able to run 3rd party add ons, and I still believe it was the greatest feature that has ever existed in MMO-history.

I regularly ran 100+ add ons and it makes the game SO different. Sometimes I miss WoW just because I miss the add ons.

I honestly think add-ons do more harm than good. I mean in WoW there were a few that were kind of helpful but most of them took so much away from the game.

If there was something you couldn’t do, there was no incentive to get better, you just downloaded the add-on for it. Then the players who could do it already wonder why they’re busting their hump when this other guy’s setup pretty much does the work for him, so they get it too. Ultimately the player experience is reduced to a Pavlovian response of pressing buttons to various stimuli and triggers while fixating on health bars, or worse, DPS meters, and the game itself gets buried underneath them. Suddenly, you’re playing the add-on more than the actual game, and worse people get too dependent on them to the point of not being able to function come patch day when they all break.

I really hope that never happens here. I’ll cut myself off from the internet and go luddite before I look at another healbot interface or optimal resource gathering path.

DPS Meters are the single worst thing that has ever happened to the MMORPG genre.

and we can thank WoW addons for that.
