Advice for a Profession
Mesmer is fun at high levels but is boring at low levels. Engineer can be fun, but it always ends up becoming a sort of concert pianist. Thief IS squishy, but in PvE can be one of the tankiest classes (without getting any defense), of course this style of play is really… really… really… slow, and I mean slow. You get Dagger/Pistol (or Sword/Pistol) and use 5 so that the field is always on the ground. This will mitigate all damage from mobs that aren’t bosses. If they are bosses, use Dagger/Pistol to apply Poison and (with 15 trait points in the first line) Weakness.
I main a Mesmer, and I can tell you that the fun never stops, but the early levels ARE a chore.
Is the soloing/DPS potential there for a Mesmer? I’m only lvl 23 atm, but I feel like I am being carried through the levels by my warrior brother. I have tried to solo and I feel like the phantoms die instantly or close to it, and do 1-2dmg per hit. I am S/S atm. I love the premise of the spellsword style, can they be DPS or is their role mainly support?
They can definitely be DPS. The problem is that Mesmers are very trait-oriented, which means at lower levels you won’t be able to be strong, whereas a class like a Warrior is brute force, so they have their strength and their traits simply add more strength to them.
I see, thanks a lot for the advice, I’ll stick with it for now =)
Be careful, we are getting a nerf tomorrow, so we’ll see how it goes. It probably won’t affect you since you wouldn’t have been using the stuff that got nerfed, or wouldn’t notice it, but just keep that in mind. I’ll post the explanation below:
Illusionist Celerity: All Illusion-Summoning Skills Have Their Cooldown Reduced By 20% (Getting moved from Adept Minor Trait to Grandmaster Minor Trait [5 points in Illusions —> 25 points in Illusions])
…
all of our phantasms were balanced around the assumption that we would have this trait
…
This was supposed to be a build diversity patch. Moving this trait is nerfing every single build other than shatters and interrupts… and interrupts aren’t viable as of now (we’ll see if that changes after the patch though). All those builds that anet wanted to make viable… just got nerfed. That’s why we’re kitten ed.Modified quote to show the reason why this is unreasonable.
I suggest Guardian or Engineer. They both synergize well with warrior. Or just stick with your Mesmer.
If you want to do DPS, run dungeons etc. warrior will never go wrong. Warrior is like the most wanted class (Along with guardian and mesmer) and they can have some great damage.
Myself play necro, and are happy with it
It doesn’t matter if you have two warriors: this game is not WoW, all warriors just fine.
PvE wise, as for what you are aiming for, I would recommend a warrior. Mesmers can do good damage but their main job is to support the team with utility skills, and I won’t say mesmer is as easy to level as warrior. Most wanted professions in dungeons are warrior(superior damage), mesmer(superior support), and guardian(for hard content tanking and support).
A warrior starts to shine even more when it is around more warriors! Although a Guardian will make a very nice combo as well, one being a little more offensive and one being a little bit more defensive. As in potential that is, because you can switch roles around ofcourse, because guardian is far from powerless when it comes do offence!
Allthough I would recommend letting the warrior shine in dps and the guardian in survival, they can both buff eachother up really nice and make an incredibly hard to kill team!
