Another player, both being in the same guild[..], came up and beginning telling her the same thing and telling her to stop spamming and that he hoped she got banned.
This is the important and glossed over part of your message. Why was she accused of spamming?

There isn’t anything glossed over, actually. She wasn’t spamming at all. The only thing she was doing was responding via the ‘say’ feature to the player repeatedly saying he was reporting her for gold selling. Which itself is ridiculous because combined we don’t even have 5 gold. His fellow guild member joined and added in to the harassment while she tried to discern what was actually going on and figure out why this person suddenly decided to ‘report her’ for something she hadn’t done. If anything, he was the one spamming by repeating going: “reported you” and “stop trying to sell me gold”.
Tell your friend not to worry. ANet checks the chat logs before issuing any bans. If she wasn’t selling any gold in chat, she won’t get banned or suspended. (And the trolls who falsely reported her, although I doubt they actually did anything, would face action if they made false reports.)
Thank you for the level-headed response.
She, you, I and everyone should take this whole situation as a life lesson: Sometimes it’s best to keep ones mouth shut, escpecially on the internet. This leads to more life lessons that improve “quality of life”:
It’s easiest to learn something when you totally mess it up, which your friend did and I live by that rule. Run away in terror and later with a clear mind one can dissect the situation, realize what they did wrong and yes, it’s one sided thought focusing on oneselfs actions not other peoples actions towards them (not taking down player names, responding incorrectly to the taunts allowing victimization) and learn how to react in the future. Fear and harrasment make us stronger due to rational thought after the fact.
Ask your friend if she was in that same situation now, what would she do different? If it’s drastically different then what you posted, she learned a life lesson.
There is an option to report verbal abuse. Don’t know why they felt it was important to do what they did but they can get suspensions not your friend. As long as your friend did not ‘give as good as she got’ it would be clear to ANET what happened.
Advice for next time is that when people start to say I’m reporting you for things you did not do, block them.
Actually there is no need for her to recall the names
As said by a previous poster, ANet keeps track of chatlogs…file a report and time around when this happened. ANet should be able to find the specific chat and take proper action
She could have just muted them instantly. And I cannot stress this enough, she cannot let something like that get to her head.
And honestly your toon next to them wouldn’t make a difference.
And by the way, the right way is the one that looks like the entrance.
There is mean people everywhere. And maybe they simply had a gold seller harassing them in the last couple of days with a similar names to your friend. Maybe that’s why they did that.
Anyway, the best reaction is not letting that get to you. Its only word on a screen after all. She could had block them, so she would not see what they were saying after. A report of what they already said was easy after that.
Block them, report them. That’s pretty much all you can do. I know it’s annoying that the anonymity of the internet let’s people get away of these things, but that can’t be helped with how the internet works.
You should tell her to filter chat on map/guild/party only. Then block whoever whispers her if they are being scrubs. If I see scrubs like that in pvp I’ll pwn them for ya.

BTW, once you’ve made it through the dark room and must choose between 3 gaping holes with waterfalls, choose the one on the right. I hear the other 2 lead to death although I’ve never tried them. I instinctively chose the one on the right and later learned that was definitely the right choice.

If you choose wrong you are revived at the top of the falls and can choose again. Don’t let the death thing fool you and wp out.
