Q:
Ahead of myself, but behind at the same time...
A:
I wouldn’t say you are doing anything wrong, but you may be missing out on “easy” XP awards. Crafting is the one you mention. Once you work out what you are doing with crafting, you can generate quite a lot of XP (I try to focus on crafting only when I have a crafting XP booster handy).
The game also rewards a lot of non-event, or non-combat activities with XP. Exploring in particular. If you have completed all the maps you have reached so far then this may not be an issue, but exploring the other starting areas also nets a lot of XP.
Don’t pass up a dynamic event and make sure you stick around for any follow ons. If you have time, try and complete your Daily Achievements – for me, this takes the grind out of simply walloping mobs and farming nodes as there is a bit of focus to it. And you’re rewarded in XP, coin, materials etc.
I am at roughly the same level than you on my main and I don’t think I’ve ever been more than a level below the content I was playing.
Ah, I’m currently having this problem. I’m in my 2nd zone, and I’m doing most of what I can find and I’m still underleveled, I’m kind of forced into using a Rifle with bolas (playing Warrior) because I can’t melee mobs due to level difference.
It’s becoming annoying :/
i would highest suggest you get some gathering tools and pick up a proffesion for some easy exp.
As already mentioned , if you don’ t like to craft (but why… it’s really fun!), you can try to explore a map 100%. This is what i do : i go to a low level area , and get all vistas, pois, quests etc. When you complete the area you will also get a chest that among others stuff it also gives you experience… so by the time you complete the area you will have gain 2-3 levels.
