Alienware M14x...
No laptop is meant to run games like a beast, too many cooling problems. Although some laptops are advertised as a “gaming laptop”, is there a reason you did not want a desktop instead? Such as traveling?
As mentioned above, I would strongly suggest getting a desktop. However, if you really want/need a laptop, I would suggest looking at the Asus gaming series if your budget allows it.
I am playing with 14 FPS max. Just can dream about WvWvW, World Bosses or sPvP. xD
I wouldnt really mind a desktop now that you mention it. Although, I still prefer mobility over power
I play on a laptop. Pretty decent HP. Certainly no Alienware. BUT, for the money you would invest in an Alienware you could make a Godmode PC. Look alienware are really nice and flashy but a huge waste of money. Really the only real gaming on computers is on a PC. My laptop run this at about 22FPS. LAME. I like the mobility of a laptop for other reasons than gaming. I prefer gaming on a pc more than a 360 or PS3, though it does take some effort, but it pays off. PC >>> Laptop anyday, my friend.

14" monitor, IMO, is too small to play games. M15x is better and overall standard alienware machine bought.
I would go for the M15x or G75vx (asus)

But gaming laptops have no mobility at all?!
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
I’ve gone back to desktop. I got to the point where I had my laptop hooked to a monitor, keyboard and mouse setup simply because I didn’t ever never to move my laptop anywhere.
I would say to get a desktop for your gaming, and a laptop for whatever else you need really. That 900-1800 can get you really good one running.
Also large screens are addictive.
I’m actually running GW2 on the exact model of Alienware laptop that OP mentioned. It runs smoothly at near-max graphics (or 40ish FPS if you bump reflections and shadows to max) with absolutely no overheating issues. Just be smart and keep it propped up so the fan can work properly and heat will escape, and you won’t have any issues.
Do not, I repeat DO NOT buy an Alienware. Alienware is just a fancy case. It’s a dell in a $2,000 case.
I suggest Toshiba. :’)
Avoid Acer.
I"m with the people that suggested to get a desktop for gaming….I made a thread about this and everybody freaked out when I suggested it and the thread got closed lol
~$800 will get u the following Desktop if u build it urself.
Intel 3570k
Coolermaster Evo 212 cooler
Asus P8Z77 motherboard
16gb 1600mhz CL9 RAM
AMD 7870 Sapphire XT / Club3D Joker
Coolermaster HAF 912/ Storm PC Case
600w Corsair/Seasonic PSU
500gb/1TB HDD
Optical Drive.
If u need a keyboard, mouse, monitor , and speakers add another $200 ontop.
A rig like that will play GW2 the best that is currently possible if u OC the CPU which the abvoe cooler is capable of handling. it wil also run any otherr ucrrent game really well, likely on ma /close to max settings ..except Sleeping Dogs and maybe a few other OTT titles like the up coming Crysis 3.
A laptop for the same price ..will not ..it just wont ..no where near the same performance in fact.
