Am I Doing Something wrong?
I have only one toon on lvl 80 and did it with out crafting , actually I only did the crafting once i hit level 80.
I just followed the story line , ran all the events I could , Map completion gets you good xp, Ming you I dumped my ele after a few weeks because i was just dying all the time, and switched to a necro which helped a lot, now i am slowlu trying to understand my ele so I can lvl her too
Mind me asking how long you played the character for to get 80? Also did you end up soloing the entire way?
I’m playing a ranger myself at the minute, simply because I do quite well in spvp which currently is the only side to the game thats keeping me here.
I leveled a ranger from 0-80 without doing crafting in about 3 weeks. I went from map to map doing map completion and did my personal story steps. I also did my dailies every single day. I soloed almost the entire thing.
Without having a lot of money, map completion (even doing maps that are below your level!) is definitely the best way to level up quickly.

I played for about a week and a half to get 80. Keep in mind I was playing several hours a day and stupidly speeding through content :P
Story-Solo. Didn’t finish the last part (group required) until a month after I hit 80 on my 2nd character.
Hearts-Mix of solo and just doing with people in area, this is open world stuff.
Meta Events- Always with people, not in party but around others since you don’t actually need party.
Dungeons-Of course need a party here.
Fastest way for me after my first 80-
Story, events, meta events, exploration. At 60 you can do 2 crafts, I prefer cooking and jeweler. Each will net 10 levels. This is optional though. If you need help in game you can pm me in game or on forums I can give you plenty of ways to more speedily level. But my best advice is don’t rush, you get burned out quickly like us.. Unless its actually negatively affecting your enjoyment by being low level, take your time.

I find people team for: dungeons, WvWvW, or with friends/guild members for leveling. Dungeons can be done starting at level 30. The other two can be engaged in any time.
I just did map completions and events, and got to 80 over the course of a month or so. I was enjoying working my way through a map completely while pursuing the story. Doing the hearts, dailies, story, and events gets you way more levels than just killing things. Also, in lower level zones, if you play at reasonable times, there are usually people who will join in any event going on, so parties aren’t completely necessary. Most people on the map are pretty positive if you need help with a story, skill point, or event.
Prior to 80 you dont’ really have to group for anything except dungeons and of course WvW.
Dungeons start at level 30 and there’s one about every ten levels. But the truth is you’re better off outleveling dungeons, because at level they can be hard. Say you go five levels above, so you could do the AC story mode at about level 35…or at 30 with a group of higher level characters.
But this gets back to your guild. My guild runs events to help lower level characters and we often level alts with lower level people just for the fun of playing together. See if you can find a leveling guild in addition to your main guild and your problem is solved.
After reading all this I came to the assumption there wasnt particularly much for low levels to do besides solo, which massively put me off coming back to the game as I play MMORPG’s for the MMO part of it. Soloing everything just to get end game content (where there rarely is any in most games) just isn’t my thing.
However I did decide to ditch the guild, and move to a new server and I can now quite happily say I pretty much always have something to do now besides soloing. The past three days of GW2 has been more fun than the past 3 months prior to that.
I ended up guesting a new server, going to lions arch and asking for a guild in map chat. Luckily I got an invite from a guild that just moved from another server themselves and I couldn’t be happier
Hope I can still help you out a bit as I see you had some fun days.
The easiest way for me to level was simply following story and completing map areas. If you didn’t reach level 15 after you completed the first map, just play some events you come across, most are solo, and sometimes in an area like queensdale(I played there the most since in my exp people where most active there, but you can exp it differently ofc) people will tell in map chat when something like troll or oak event is up. After your first area, you can either go for the other starting areas or go to a lvl 15-25 area and do the same thing.
And yes this is mostly solo, but hey, you are learning about the game and how to play it here, also you should be saying “wow” numerous times because of the beautifull environment!
You can also ask someone on the forum to join you in leveling your character through the first 10-20 lvls if you really hate going solo. And if no one wants to, take the ranger as a prof, you will never be alone again!
Now when you have reached the level of around 30, you can even start doing some dungeons, although I strongly recommend waiting untill at least level 40 since I don’t see too many people at those levels doing the first dungeon. You have to visit Plains of ashford for your first dungeon, and this is also a nice way to start leveling, this requires a party of 5 players in any normal situation. and we have a site called “gw2lfg.com” you can google it, and you can find a party there by making an LFG or by whispering/joining someone else who made an LFG.
And leveling, is all about having fun in the game. If you don’t like leveling, you either are WAY to focussed on getting to level 80, or you don’t like the game…
No idea mate, I rolled a thief like two weeks ago and she’s level 29 already. I just explore, do DEs when I find them.
