Ok, so I have been stuck between pretty much Necromancer, Warrior, and Mesmer on what class I wan’t as my main.

I like the Necromancer the most then the Warrior, the Mesmer is weird to me but they seems cool.

I have always just like the Dark death based or blood magic based classes, and the Dark knight classes also.

But I have been leveling a Necro for a couple days now gotten to level 42 so far.

But I’m worried I’m just crippling myself in the long run.

I hear all this stuff about how Necro just is not in a good spot they are never wanted for dungeons or even PvP Teams.

Is this true? Are Necros as bad as people say?

Is there any known future plans for Necro to make them better

Or am i pretty much choosing the worst of the 3 Classes to main, my biggest problem with choosing Warrior is im worried they will be boring after a while. For the most part right now I enjoy Warrior a lot they are my most played in PvP and i tend to do the best with Warrior over any other class.

Then mesmer i have never really gotten into they just seem interesting.

Play what you want, if you’re not enjoying the game then why play? Warrior is rather OP in most cases, which is why you seem them a lot and why you tend to do better in pvp. Mesmer is mainly known for its utility uses, personally I suck at mesmer though. Necro is more condi based, so that’s probably why people dis it so much, condi isn’t that helpful in dungeon runs when everyone else is trying to kill asap rather than through attrition. Power necros in pvp are godly, and there are some good bunker necro builds for pvp as well, so don’t know where you got that misinfo.
Like I said, just play what you like to, there’s really only a facile level of players that won’t accept you in their dungeon team or whatever, you can always play with friends/guildies.

necro is the worst class for dungeons right now, I would focus on your warrior now.

if you get bored of it, you can always level another character

I have always heard necro and ranger are sub optimal for dungeons, which is why I have leveled neither. Warrior, guardian, ele, and maybe mesmer are the classes you should be looking at, with warrior being a solid choice as they are average or above average in all areas.

ranger is actually good for dungeons, the best classes for dungeon running atm are ele, war, thief, and ranger

yeah I forgot about thieves, they are best for dungeons like CM where stealth is so useful (I should probably level one soon). I think mesmers are now only useful for dungeons like Arah, where reflects are OP especially at boss fights like Lupi. in other dungeons reflects got nerfed, however none of this impacted warriors. In fact they are even more useful for boss fights like Malrona and Spider Queen. they are also an excellent choice for Arah and dungeons in general, 99% of those whom I usually see carry at Lupi are warriors. So stick with warrior for now, the mechanics are straightforward and you usually spam one or two buttons so if you get bored with that, you might want to look at an Ele—they are probably the most interesting class in the game imo. Plus even better than warriors for speedruns.

Warriors aren’t OP they’re just the most idiot proof class all you really have to do is press GS 2, however a good warrior will focus on buffing group dps which requires a bit more thought. I find warriors tend to be easy kills in pvp/wvw even the popular hambows so i don’t know were people get the idea that they’re above average. Mesmer’s are fun to play but take some skill to play well and the more mesmers you have in a group the less useful they are. Necro’s tend to be pvp gods or easy loot bags it just depends on the player. They’re the least optimal for dungeons, but most groups won’t really care as long as your a decent player. So as it gets repeated in everyone of these threads PLAY WHAT YOU ENJOY IT’S A GAME.

Necros may occasionally fall short of some other classes in PvE, but they can be very good in WvW, and power necros are probably by biggest ‘nope’ button in pvp.

The Random Number Gods are nothing if not predictable.

Some players can be very discriminatory when selecting classes for dungeons, but for the most part you’ll generally find players are pretty open to any classes. I lean on the less discriminatory side of parties. I have kicked people in the past largely for being a pain in the butt or just generally abusive.

Some dungeon runners challenge themselves by seeing how fast they can do the runs for gold. I do it with mixed groups to challenge myself in working with all sorts of classes. Some days I want to blitz dungeons and other days I’m just looking for a laugh. Just the other night, I listed up a COE group with “NOT stacking, must be willing to YOLO all accepted”. At every fight we just charged in and hugged everything.

I’ve got a necro and warr, among other classes, but recently rolled a mesmer. Still undecided whether I’ll keep her. Necro I use largely in wvw and for triple wurms. There’s always a demand for condition users in wurms. As for wvw, mark and well bombing as well just general disruption is the hall mark of necros, excellent fun when you’ve kitted them out for survival.

You are assuming the OP WANTS to do Dungeons……

You can play them all…..I have one of each class and don’t really have a “main”. There is nothing wrong with that.

Necros have probably the easiest time getting bag tags in WvW. Just paint the ground green with staff marks and watch the loot roll in. Throw out an epidemic for good measure.

Necro DPS in dungeons is reportedly top of the charts, but only due to Lich Form. They don’t bring anything particularly useful (such as might, protection, reflects, etc) to a dungeon that any other class do better.

Necros are beastly in PvP when played right. Not sure what the “top pro teams” are running, but for average play, the necro is strong.

Play what you want. There are always balance patches and feature packs in the future. Who knows, in 6 months the necro might have a new trait that lets them compete with eles for might stacking. If they ever get around to revamping boss design, the necro’s plentiful CC might be desirable.

Necro are really good in WvW, Roaming and sPvP. In PvE they are probably the weakness profession at the moment. The problems are that :

- They have good single target dps, but don’t cleave.
- They have support, but they are mostly fix for PvP
- The also have PvE support, but they have nothing unique and everything they do can be done better by another profession

Don’t take that as a Necro can’t do kitten in a dungeon. I’ll take a good necro with a good build anytime over a bad player with a good profession and a good build or a good player with a bad build.

But some pugs have a hard time accepting Rangers, Engineer and Necro only because they read they were bad on the forum. If you build your Necro right and play it good, it shouldn’t be important except for a record run, but it don’t work that way in reality. With a necro, some ppl will discriminate you. Hell, ppl will discriminate you even if you are a good ranger with a good build that can fit into a record run. Don’t take it personal, but keep that in mind. People can be stupid.
