Am I missing something while I'm leveling?
You need to gather, explore, and even craft as well, and the levels will fly by. WvW is viable as well, it’s very good experience.
As a rule of thumb, if you don’t craft or WvW or dungeon, you’ll have to do two zones of a certain level bracket to get to the appropriate level. Best thing to do is do one map until the heart quests are about three levels above your level, then hit another map of the same level bracket, which you should be able to run to completion and then go back. That’s what I do anyway.

That hasn’t been my experience at all. I’ve never had to go to another same level zone, craft, WvW or run a dungeon yet. Usually I am right at the level required to move to the next zone as long as I’ve done every heart, vista, skill challenge, and the dynamic events that are usually around the heart areas.

Fair enough, I’ve always encountered it I do every completion, I spend a lot of time on the DEs and such but always find myself a few levels shy of the next zone, you can start it, but by time you’re finishing the next zone you’re like 6 levels lower and it’s actually a challenge to continue so I always do two zones just to give me the edge.
