Another profession help thread
I have a Ranger main and a Necro alt, though I’ve played all of the professions.
Which profession you’ll enjoy the most will depend on the type of game you prefer to play. For instance thieves are really good in the open field wvw maps, while engi is good at bunkering down positions in pvp. Warrior is generally the biggest dps contributor in pve, though semi-recent ranger buffs put them into contention too.
However you mentioned that you were a little bored with the simplicity of warrior.
Everyone feels different about each profession, but if you’re looking for a profession that’s a little more mentally involving I’d suggest the Engineer. Does it have the highest skill cap? That’s a matter of opinion, but it has a unique skill rotation in competitive play that the other professions can’t match. So it might interest you the most. Ele is another option. If you’re bored with the simplicity of warrior I would suggest against ranger, thief or (to a lesser extent) guardian.

I would highly recommend engineer if you’re looking for a flexible, high-skill-cap profession. Damage-wise it’s lower than ele (while still being in the top 3), rotation-wise I’d say it’s about the same as a S/D or D/D ele, but in terms of adaptability and utility it’s superior IMO.
A good engie can cover almost any gap in party composition or compensate for people who aren’t that great at providing what they should, like for example if the party’s guardian has trouble remembering when to put down Wall of Reflection you can step in with Throw Elixir U, if the elementalist isn’t providing a fire field to stack might you can do it yourself with Flamethrower or Bomb Kit, if there’s no thief you can stealth the entire party…
It’s definitely going to be a step above guardian and warrior in terms of complexity, but if you click with the profession then it’s really fun and rewarding to play.
Highest skillcap with alot of umph IMO:
Ele, Engi, Mesm & Thief
Ele: efficient everywere, and contrary to Kovy mentioning Warriors as most PvE dmg, elementalist outshine Warriors by a mile in PvE dpswise. By a mile. Fun but you are locked to the range of your weapon.
Engi: You can do anything and everything to a certain extent, although a bit clunky to play and you dont really have the luxury of having any easymode builds if you are to be efficient. However they are very fun with all their tricks!
Mesmer: Alot of dmg in PvP/WvW, however can be hard to tag with in zergfights and you will be wanted more for your utility than your damage, except if you are in a sniper team. For PvE its about the same. Portals & reflects, decent-good damage.
Thief: Most >single< target dmg in game if we are talking spikes of dmg. Fastest travelers in game. Wanted in PvP for mobility, in WvW for mobility and safety caused by stealth aswell as their strong single target burst. At the moment Venom share builds work in blobwars if you team with necro/ele. Wanted in PvE for stealth, blinds and good damage. IMO hellalotof fun and not as tiresome as juggeling 20 skills to match the efficiency of 10, however you will have a hard time adapting to some situations.

Too lazy to edit, but MY vote:
1. Thief because you are ALWAYS on your toes, you are superfast and high spike dmg.
2. Engineer because of the fun tricks.
3. Mesmer because of.. well.. I love the theme. They are not fun in Blobwars though imo.
4. Elementalist, reason for being last is because of locked range. Staff plays out as a mage in any game and ive had that too much already. D/D is fun but no range options.
However they are much easier than engineer due to.. well.. Easy rotations no matter the amount of spells.
