Any Performance gain from ram speed?
I can’t say for gw2 specifically, but most reviews and tests I’ve read for other games don’t show any meaningful improvement in frames. Only exception is if you’re using the integrated gpu
No, ram frequency has a negligible impact on performance across the board in pretty much every application, at this point it’s more of a “look at me and what I have” type of thing.
There are very few reasons to ever overclock your ram, you could easily fry your slots if not careful.
The best performance increase you can make for GW2 specifically is a more up-to-date cpu (get on the sky/kabylake train). Due to the engine GW2 is built on, it’s a pretty major CPU hog and utilises the GPU and other system resources very little.
note: GW2 mostly depends on single core CPU performance, so adding more cores may result in lower overall performance.
OCing your ram is heating up your CPU? Make sure you didn’t adjust your CPU voltage by accident.
I would say OCing your CPU and your GPU would gain you the most.
Thanks for the replies, I’m gonna leave it at stock.
Well, I’ve tested 1600 cl11 vs 2400 cl10 and there is a meaningful improvement in all games and benchmarks tested.
Gw2 is about 1-2fps, GTA V is about 3fps, Hitman gets up to 5fps and 3DMark API Overhead shows hundreds of thousands points more.
People have the wrong idea ram speed doesn’t matter, but that comes from the past when overclocking ram was very limited and games were quite light in terms of memory.
But both things have changed. DDR4 can go from 2133 to 3600 from stock and even DDR3 goes from 1600 to 2400. And now games move a lot more data.
So yes, overclocking ram speed is profitable, although not as much as cpu or gpu overclock.

I actually find oc not really profitable. If the op have to loosen the timings, the increase latency will remove the benefit of increase bandwidth.
The only way for ram to matter is to buy faster ram. Benefits does show up as increase minimum fps. I would say in the OP’s case, I wouldnt bother investing in it.
