I’m only on my first character, a level 47 Human Ranger, and I am so indifferent about the story missions. I’ve been putting off the story since level 22 – that’s the level of the next quest in the line. Is there any penalty or drawback to waiting so long, or even not completing the story missions AT ALL?

Beauty of this game is there is absolutely nothing you HAVE to do in it.

There are a few nice rewards at higher level, like influence scrolls for guild influence. I think the story lines are below par, especially the voice acting and scripts for them.

Huh? I love the story quests, The story is nice. Its not all “DEEP” but there is plot twists and likable characters. This game isnt a game you play, its more like an interactive storybook.

I hate playing in a game universe that I don’t know anything about so the personal story was a good way to get me started in the world of Tyria. But if you don’t care it’s not mandatory.

Currently the only way to get back slot items is via personal story and the one you get at ~80 is pretty sexy even if there never is an exotic for that slot. :/

I’m seriously hoping they come out with alternate ways to populate the back slot since, while I enjoyed the personal story stuff the first time thru, and there’s some entertainment in the earlier levels where it is truly branched, it’s dreadful repeating from about 50 onward where it all merges together and/or only varies a little in text.

If you want to get behind the story further I would recommend reading Edge of Destiny, as it introduces Destiny’s Edge and a lot of the lore concerning the Elder Dragons.

Although you will probably find that Destiny’s Edge aren’t as well presented in the game

Also if you really get into it, read Ghosts of Ascalon. Will add extra significance to some of the characters you meet in Guild Wars 2, Dougal Keane in Lions Arch being one of them.

I enjoyed most of the story, up to a certain point where it felt like it was taken away from you a bit.

Trahearne

I did also quiet enjoy the story flowing through the dungeons, concerning the members of Destiny’s Edge.

I would like the inclusion of some more in-world missions, like the story, but more like missions for Guild Wars 1 and have them designed for several players. A cross between dungeons and missions I guess. Would be a nice way to stage a piece of story across the world building towards an expansion pack or something similar.

Also, this makes some interesting looking at if your interested in how the story is broken up. It’s essentially a flow chart of the story mission progression.

It’s also a matter of taste I suppose but I don’t like any of the npc’s mostly because of the voice acting.

The voice acting is flat, the voices and script are childish and the story lines are very predictable and have a big “been there, done that” feeling.

I know a lot was wrong with SWTOR but the story lines and voice acting was 20 times better. Call me spoiled but it’s what it is. I just left SWTOR cause endgame was all about raiding and gear progression, which I don’t care for. Raids are just silly Skinner type set ups in my view.

But all in all the story here starts with “this is my story” but it isn’t. It really is “oh btw, I was there too”.

And so with the childish voices and scripting, which is about the level of that Dungeons and Dragons movie that came out some years ago (the horror!) I am just glad that they are a small part of the game.

I skip through all the conversations now and just fight what there is to fight and claim my rewards. Much better that way.

Comparing it with the D&D movie some years ago? Personal story (ps) not THAT bad.

I kinda enjoy it, but yea, the story is sometimes a bit cheesy. You have to see through the mediocre voice acting a bit (think about how many lines each of the main character had to say! for each personality, each dungeon path, each background choice etc. !). Then it’s pretty enjoyable. I mainly use it for a guide on where to go next.

I do hope they will advance the ps in future expansions and updates, and hopefully come back more on the earlier choices we made for character creation. There are some stories at least that look pretty unfinished (the dreamless sylvari) or some choices in the character creation that look almost unused (day cycle or what god you are blessed by)

Some thought provoking quote

Funnily enough, it’s the only thing I see left to do in this game because I can’t find any other players.
