AoE Looting: How does it work?
The patch notes mention: “…will only trigger the AoE Loot functionality while none of the forms of the interact dialog are visible…”. Perhaps you’re hovering your mouse over a lootable corpse when you hit F. Since the mouse-hover would pop an “Search” flag (a form of interact dialog), the AoE loot function would not trigger.
Here’s what I posted in a different thread. I haven’t played the game yet to try it out.
This new AOE loot from what I gather requires you to not have any interact popups on screen such as “Loot” or “Harvest”. You press F and it will loot all bodies in a short range. If there is a interact pop up on screen, that will take priority over AOE loot. Alternatively, there is a new keybind to force AOE loot and ignore all interact popups.
so if you are within 100 range of an item and click ‘search’, it will only loot the corpse 100 away and not the one 500 away? whereas if you were 200 away from the first one and aoe loot, it would get both of them? just want to make sure I understand why this would possibly make sense to anyone listening.

Wait…
So AoE loot is even superceded by the very thing auto AoE loot is supposed to work hand in hand with? They literally meant ‘any’ Interact dialog…including loot?
Well that’s not intuitive.
I’ll try that and see if that works, thank you!
That works.
My problem was not understanding that even if all the interaction is, is a ‘loot’ interaction, that still interferes with aoe loot.
Not terribly intuitive, and in hindsight, I can see why they do it, so you still have the option to just do one at a time while it’s on, I guess.
But at any rate, success, thank you!
You can assing a hotkey to the autoloot function. (I used the available ‘L’ wich stands for loot), then it doesnt matter what interact (F) is saying or doing, it will loot all loottable objects in the aoe distance.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
This is true. Confirmed by a Dev in the Bugs subforum.
Binding a new key will work every time.

Yeah, that works too, but I’ve gotten so used to mashing ‘F’ that I’m happy with that. And now that I know how that works, I’ve been able to make it second nature to hit F ‘in between’ things to good effect.
But I did map Alt-F as a back up.
the other problem is that it won’t tell you when there is something that needs looting.
my problem has always been not looting something because I didn’t know it was there, not that I couldn’t reach it due to a mob.
Why couldn’t they just extend the range of the normal looting, and make it pick up everything instead of one at a time?

I put aoe loot on my J key. It hasn’t taken long to get in the habit of hitting J instead of F for all my looting, especially since it has a much longer range than F loot. I tap it on spec and watch the items appear on the right edge of the screen Also now you can see little glowing dots going from a corpse to you if you are looting that corpse.
I still drag my mouse around over more distant corpses to see if a little hand appears. If so, I step a bit closer and tap J. Voila!
I love this new feature.

Yeah i had this misunderstanding as well. Anyway now i know how it works.

Ooo, is that new? I thought I’d just not noticed it before
I love this new feature.
Aye, ’tis good.
it’s a half step in the right direction. As is, it isn’t bad to use, it’s just not as useful as it should of been.
