One of the reasons I quit GW2 after lvl80 was the time consumption. As a student I dont have the selfdicipline needed to moderate my playtime, so I quit alltogether to prevent MMO-gaming to have a negative effect on my studies.

It struck me that WoW had parental controls to limit playtime and set up specific game times per day. Does GW2 have a similar feature that I can apply to myself to prevent me from playing too much?

This post made me smile.

It’s called self control. I, too, have very little of it. Your body catches up to you once you realize 2 hours of sleep per day isn’t good.

In GW2, Trading Post plays you!

No, the most ANet has ever had was the warning in Guild Wars 1 that you had played X hours and should take a break, which was ignored by everyone.

Maybe put a loud alarm clock in the next room that doesn’t turn off until you get up and go over there or has a snooze button that keeps nagging you. Make it a rule when you go over there to stop the alarm, you log out of the game. If you can’t stop right then, the alarm keeps going, no getting up to hit snooze.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Actually Windows itself has those features.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/set-parental-controls#1TC=windows-7

This guide is for Windows 7. All editions I believe.
You can set times, block/allow specific games and content as you see fit.
If you are having difficulty maintaining your own rules, this would be a great feature. As a student you can set additional perimeters to prevent you from doing other activites when you should be studying. (i.e. You tube, Stumble Upon, Uberhumor, etc.)

Good luck!

Nice to know. (Better than my alarm clock suggestion) lol

I thought there was an in-game clock option in the Options? I’ve never messed with it, but assumed it was like GW1 where it would pop up “you’ve been playing for 78 hours, please take a break.”

Ignore.

That just puts the time in the corner of your minimap. Either local time or server time.

What economic reason would Anet have for putting this feature in?

WoW has your money each month.

Anet needs you in-game to buy gems.

We are all grown-ups here and while this feature may be beneficial to parents, it does not make economic sense for Anet.

BTW, Windows has parental controls built in and plenty of 3rd party programs you can install to provide this kind of program usage / policing function.

EDIT: I don’t think the request is out of line, but it is not in Anet’s economic interests, so I doubt it will happen. Everyone wanting this should look for an alternate method (mentioned above) to get what they want.
