Background:
I am a L80 Elementalist. I only do Open World PvE (No Dungeons, Fractals, WvW or PvP).

Quandary:
I am about to craft my first Ascended Light armor and I just can not decide if I want to do Celestial or one of the other sets.

I have been running with Ogden’s(Carrion) Exotics w/ 6 Superior Runes of Strength for the last year or so and have no problem with surviving (including in Orr) with the exception of soloing high-end Elites & Champions.

I do a lot of World Bosses so due to Critical not affecting them, I did not just default to Berserker.

I run with a Zojja’s Ascended Staff & Distinguished Circle of Logic(both Berserk) if that makes a difference.

Thoughts?

As elementalist, nearly every stat option is necessary to us. From Ferocity to Boon Duration. I think Celestial is a perfect fit for us. I’ve been using it in PvP and have absolutely fallen in love with stat distribution. So much so that I’ve decided to start the process of crafting a set for everything else.

I think the biggest challenge is finding the right rune set for your play style.

Yeah I agree that Celestial would seem to fit we Eles best but I just don’t know if in the Open World PvE environment if it is needed or even the best use of my long time coming Ascended Armor?

Well since you can’t crit some of those bosses the only real stat of value to you is power, previously Celestial was seriously lacking in power in comparison to other stat sets, but I’m not sure if that is still the case with the recent boost they gave it.

However you can always get some food buff for power and still achieve an “acceptable” amount of it. My advice would be to go for Celestial, it’s a good all-rounder set for eles and it might help you if you ever get into Dungeons/WvW.

There is nothing wrong with mixing some Celestial in with another spec to gain a boost in certain stats…..say go with 3 or 4 pieces of Celestial and the rest Soldiers (for more power vs World Bosses) or Knights (more Toughness for WvW).

I find the strict idea that you have to go FULL one armor spec very constraining. You should pick your stats based on how you want to play the game, not because someone tells you your build should be, “All or nothing”. That being said, suiting up for maximum acceptance in Dungeon Pugs is another matter…..

If you are not sure, I wouldn’t make ascended armor especially how expensive light armors are and won’t give you that money worth advantage over exotic. If I were you I would make many exotic armors and see which one I like or working on ascended trinkets first.

I realize that you are open world PvE focused, but go run the train in EotM, more like a PvE train than WvW, get some Badges of Honor and get various armor sets, as suggested above, and see what works. Honestly though, if you are only going to do open world PvE you do not need ascended.

Yeah, I know it’s not needed. It’s more of a self imposed Best In Slot thing, but since they are sooo expensive I didn’t want to just throw my money away on the wrong set
