Hi All – I am a level 80 Ranger and, because of my poor survivability in WvW, decided to craft some medium armour. I believe that when I reach level 500 in Leatherworking I will be able to do this but which type should I go for? My gut feeling is one of the three types that have Healing as a major characteristic but I’m not sure. Any ideas guys?

If you have poor survivability, you shouldn’t be looking at your armor.

Once you found a build you love to play with, then you can look into ascended armor to get those are few % stats boost!

If you’re thinking about crafting some equipment to increase your survivability in WvW, you only need 400 Leatherworking to craft exotic gear. The stat combination you’ll want is Soldiers (Power, Toughness, Vitality).

But, if you’re still adamant on making your Ascended armour, Soldier’s – or in this case, Ahamid’s – is still the stat combination you’ll want to go for.

Wouldn’t it be easier to just buy PVT gear with WvW tokens or any other Dungeons?

I also strongly suggest to not craft an ascended gear to add survivability in WvW.

If you are not sure on what to use in WvW mean that you are not a veteran in WvW or not in a really dedicated WvW guild, so after you crafted the gear you would probably notice that it was not a great idea and would have a 400g+ garbage in your inventory.

As a ranger you can make some test with exotic Dire, Apothecary and Settler sets if you use cond builds, or Soldier and Cleric if power build, after a good chunk of tests and you get sure of what you want, you craft the ascended gear.

Like other said, I don’t suggest you to craft ascended gear. The advantage is minimal over exotic you seem to have a lot to learn before crafting it. You shouldn’t ask what type of ascended armor you should craft, you should already tested different type of armor and found what you are best with depending on what exactly you prefer to do and what build you want to use.

Ascended armor won’t make you a better player and you risk regretting the huge investment if you make a mistake when choosing the type of armor. Ascended is not for experimenting, exotic is.
