Ascended Armour
The armor is account bound until equipped, so the same crafting alt can make it for both without needing to double up the recipes.
Only you can decide which items you give priority. Or at least I have no advice on the matter, not having done any weapons and only having done Light chest/skirt/wings for the looks.
The “nerf” will be in the features patch most likely. At a guess, some time in March.
Yes you can, I’ve ascended armor and weapons on 5 characters…
Mesmer, get asc weapons for your melee set. The damage difference is less appreciable for ranged sets because those do less damage to begin with. Ele, get weapons first, you only have one set. Unless you’re an LH ele, in which case Asc weapons won’t do much, but extra armor would.
At this point there is little use getting Ascended weapons for most Engineer builds, and all condition damage based builds. Direct damage classes usually benefit more from Asc weapons.
And lastly do NOT get Asc unless you are also using food AND utilities, whereby skale venom is the minimum utility consumable. The benefit some of these copper-cost items provide is as much as triple the benefit of Ascended equipment, at less than 0.01% the price.

Thank you for your responses. Now I’d only have to decide which armor-type to focus on first (light or heavy in my case) which definitly makes my choices easier. I’m already using consumeables but running into the issue of Agony resistance (Backpiece + Rings aren’t timed-gated too badly with multiple dailies but the rest of the trinkets are tough.) 5 Laurels + loads of ingame money vs 20/40 Laurels or guild commendations per +5 seems like a sweet deal.
(Recipe is 5 laurels if I’m not mistaken, thus 30 Laurels for a full set.)
