1. Is there any way to tell the status of an Orr temple without actually going to the appropriate map? Of the temple traits, I’m still missing Lyssa and Grenth since those temples were always open when I was map-completing those zones and getting the other yellow traits nearby. Would be nice if I could see if one was closed while I was still standing in Lion’s Arch deciding what I wanted to do that evening.

2. I saw the following in another thread:

Hint: If you don’t have a guild that does Guild Missions, plenty of Guilds out there accept ‘guests’ to their missions, try a big community guild!

What guilds would these be? The “looking for” forum is severely deficient, but I don’t recall ever seeing anything like that.

3. General question about guilds – I see some (particularly the ones that advertise in LA map chat) have 100% rep requirements. Why would anyone join such guilds? I assume almost everyone has their own personal banking guild – I know I couldn’t live without mine. Or when these guilds say “100% rep” do they mean “rep whenever you’re not standing right in front of the guild bank using your personal banking guild”?

4. Advice on what to do next? I’ve hunted down the traits I can see myself potentially using (plus many that just happened to be along the way). I’ll probably gather many of the remaining traits someday just out of completionism, but that’s not terribly compelling. Tried visiting Southsun Cove tonight, but that really truly sucked. “You can’t get there from here” geography, plus enormous armies of those karka things at lots of chokepoints… ugh, not fun. Fortunately the Karka Queen trait is not a useful one (I was there for that event, swimming around trying to figure out how the heck one gets up to that plateau while watching her health bar diminish to nothing).

Are Dry Top and/or Silverwastes useful places to go? No traits are hidden there, so is there any benefit from doing those zones other than just seeing the content and perhaps getting lucky with the map completion rewards? Assuming they have map completion rewards – the wiki says Southsun Cove does not, but I didn’t see that disclaimer on the DT or Silverwastes pages.

I’ve tried a bit of the LS, but I’m not sure how seriously to take it since I haven’t the foggiest idea what’s going on, who most of the NPCs are, and apparently I’m not terribly good at being Caithe. Doesn’t look like it offers anything much for loot, according to the wiki.

Could level my alts, but they’re all near the level 30 “soft cap” the trait system imposes. I did trait-hunting on one character, I’m not particularly inclined to do it again… Hopefully the trait system will be fixed someday such that bringing them to 80 becomes a more reasonable prospect.

1. Unfortunately not. I think your best idea would be to jump into those maps when you login and see if they are contested.

2. Lot’s of guilds do it. Try asking on your server community website. There’s also this forum, but it is archived (and won’t be around too much longer) – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/missions

3. Some people like only repping one guild I guess. I think the general rule with 100% guilds and personal guild banks is to ask before you join. I’m guessing most of them would be ok with it.

4. Map Completion, Dungeons, Fractals, WvW, sPvP, jumping puzzles, World Bosses (like Teq and Triple Trouble). It often comes down to what you would like to do really. What do you enjoy about the game? What have you tried?

Depends what you mean by useful. You can get certain rewards from both maps. Dry Top is necessary to craft Mawdrey – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mawdrey Silverwastes is necessary to get the Luminescent armour – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Luminescent_armor but no the two maps are not included in map completion nor do they offer completion awards.

2) Just ask around or just join a guild. For bigger guild, missions are just an 30-40min quest that everybody did several times, so that you are there or no, they won’t care. I used to invite random ppl helping us during guild missions so they could have recommendation. Smaller guild will have difficulty completing all missions so an extra help would be appreciate by them. Just talk to different guild leader and ask them.

3) Never saw a 100% repping guild saying anything about a guild bank. Most if not all of their officer probably have a guild bank of their own so don’t worry. But ask just to be sure, some ppl are weird lol.

4) Dry Top is mostly useful to craft Mawdrey (ascended back that also give you Mawdrey 2 to eat bloodstone dust) and to craft Ambrite Weapons. Each friday and sathurday 1 our after reset the guild DTOP make organized run, that’s the best time to go there. Silverwaste is one of the best way to make gold right now if you know how to run it. A couple of ppl in my guild are doing 100 gold per day there. Myself, I can’t stay in that map for that long, but it give you a idea. Even 1 or 2 hours there can yield a good amount of gold.

For what to do next it highly depend on where you are now and what do you want to do. The game is free to explore. You can do whatever you want. sPvP, WvW, Dungeons, Fractals, map completion, achievement hunting, jumping puzzle, EotM, farming, crafting, etc. The game don’t force you into a specific path, you choose what you prefer.

Just a note on 100% rep guilds: the ones I’ve been in usually were fine with you having a bank guild, sometimes even accepted you swapping out for high-focus guilds for short amounts of time to do stuff like Tequatl/Triple Wurm, WvW or sPvP. It does usually involve you warning the officers beforehand so they don’t accidentally kick you out if they see you not-repping while you’re doing said things however. As with most things, communication is key.

1. There are external websites that keep track of boss events and events (including temples) in Orr. I can’t link atm but they are easy to find. There is no in-game way though.

2. Your best bet is to find a large, established guild and PM an officer. Its the only really reliable way.

3. 100% Rep requirement is very very common in guilds and guilds that don’t want it are either very casual or only ask for rep in one area (i.e. WvW or PvP). It ensures that members remain active and the guild grows.

4. At level 80 there are 4 common options:

A) Farm & Flip
Farm spots like Silverwastes and flip on the TP to make money.

B) Dungeons
You can run dungeons for money and rewards. At 80 you can gear yourself for speed clearing groups once you know the dungeons well enough.

C) WvW
Once you are kitted out, head to WvW and make use of your character. Make a difference on your server.

D) PvP
Probably the most challenging area of the game. Test your skills out there.

My advice is enjoy all four. Vary what you do with you time to keep it interesting. I’d also suggest getting all the traits available to your character (even if you just buy them). The game only really gets going at 80 – its not ‘end-game’ its just ‘game’.

My goal is to do dungeons and fractals, when/if I can find a guild with the right schedule and play style. Sorry, I guess I neglected to mention that in the OP since there’s not a lot else I can do on that front, other than periodically bump my “looking for” thread.

Silverwastes for gold you say? That sounds useful indeed!

That Guild mission forum looks useful, too bad they killed it… What do you mean by “your server community website”? I look in the “looking for” part of this forum pretty often, if that’s what you mean.

Are Tequatl and Triple Trouble (not familiar with that one) feasible for the usual zerg mass one sees at other world bosses? I had gotten the impression that Teq was basically this game’s version of what would be a lair raid in other MMOs – just the one boss, but requiring actual coordination and communication, and thus probably a guild group. The world bosses in the dailies seem to be at the very basic level of “has red name – kill it!”

I will look into those external Orr tracking sites, thanks!

Regarding Guilds, their 100% rep policy and your personal guild bank. Assuming you already have the guild bank research you need completed, in all honesty, how long would you really need to spend rep-ping the alt guild? 10 minutes? 20? Once you’re done your housework, switch back and most people won’t care. If they do… well, there are plenty of other guilds around without sticks up their darker reaches.

Regarding what to do next. This answer varies from person to person but what I know works on many is this: find a goal. Long term or short term, find something in the game to work towards. Maybe that dream of a legendary weapon is too far off, but there are other things like completing a certain achievement or set of achievements, or maybe a particular title. Maybe you want to challenge yourself and others at the various speed run records, be it dungeon, fractal or jumping puzzle. Maybe you want to be that username people recognise and respect instantly when they see you in PvP or WvW. Or even getting that specific set of gear and dyes, becoming the next best looking character in the game. Hell, it could even be as simple as wanting to buy 5,000 Fireworks and start a party in Lions Arch. Whatever your goal ends up being, there will be a path, or multiple paths, of which you can take to reaching it, thus giving you lots of stuff to do.

For example, my current goal is to achieve the Grand Artisan title by obtaining a full set of ascended armour of each weight class. This lead me to paying attention and learning optimal strategies from dungeon speed runners, learning how amazing a Thief plays while farming for Wool and Linen Scraps, and the other myriad ways making gold and finding appropriate materials in GW2. At the same time, I also want to complete the Luminescent armour set, both because of the title, the armour skin and the free piece of ascended armour. And since one of Kholer’s adds dropped a Howler for me, I’ve researched and laid out my plans to craft my second legendary.

Most servers set up their own external community website/forums. I see that you’re on FC (from your looking for post) so I’m guessing this is your server site – http://www.fergusoncrossing.org/home

Teq can be done regularly without guild groups you just need to get to the map early (around 30 mins or so). Triple Trouble is generally best to do it with a guild (which for NA servers I believe is TTS?).

It’s true that Teq and Triple Trouble need coordination, but Teq is been out for a long time and people can organized a random pug now that the Megaserver make Teq appear at specific hours. Everybody regroup on the map and it usually never fail. People are use to doing it now.

Triple Trouble is another level of organization. Even TTS can fail it from time to time so I wouldn’t trust a random map to organize for it.

Thanks Ojimaru. Sounds like crafting in this game was designed to be endgame content, which explains a lot actually. I still think it’s a terrible crafting system, but at least the motivation behind it is now clearer to me…

Still no luck finding a guild. Is there a way to effectively research guilds in-game? For example back in LOTRO I could look at the social panel looking at all non-anonymous level capped characters, sort by guild, and get a very good idea of what guilds are active at my playing times. Including a sense of what they’re up to, if I see a bunch of names with group icons all in the same instance for example. My memory of Rift is a little fuzzier since I spent far less time there, but I think one could do essentially the same thing there. Plus Rift had in-game guild search tools, sort of like a simpler version of http://gw2.guildex.org/guilds/. The only in-game guild searching option I’m aware of is “sit in Lion’s Arch and keep an eye out for recruitment ads in map chat”, which so far hasn’t been any more effective than the “looking for” forum or that gw2.guildex.org site.

Is there a more accurate and up to date version of that guildex.org site somewhere? Or instead of a server community site like AdaephonDelat linked, perhaps a “NA megaserver” community site to help hunt for PVE guilds? As one would expect, a specfic server’s site is mostly going to be about WvW since that’s the only remaining meaning a “server” has anymore. Google isn’t finding anything useful for me so far.

Unfortunately the LA option is the best in game one. You could always try the LFG tool but I’m not sure how well that would work (seen it done a few times).

Otherwise if you’re ok looking outside of your server then I’ve heard good things about these guys https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/Super-Mega-Happy-Fun-Time-NSP-Recruiting/first#post4693980
