I am a little confused about how transmuting items (specifically back items) works. I currently have the wind catcher skin bound to a soulbound backpack on one character, and I’d like to move it to a different character. Is there a way to do this? And if so would someone please explain how?

The general idea is that you grab the character you have the item soulbound to, then transmute the item’s appearance into a white item. Since whites can’t be soulbound, the resulting item is account bount, then you can just put it in the bank, grab it with another character, and transmute it to an item with the stats you want, which will soulbind it to the new character.

One caveat, though… AFAIK the only back items that work with this (might be wrong, I hope) are the ones that come with the gem store quaggan backpacks, so you might need to buy one to transfer a back item.

I believe in the moment you transmute something it becomes soulbound. edit: oh yeah white items…
Some certain backpieces are accountbound like the karkaevent backpieces so you can trade them to every character…
However you can rebuy them at the tradingpost , its not lost.

A sidenote…if u plan to upgrade your backpiece(infused) do it before the transmution otherwise the transmuted skin will be replaced again by the old standard skin.

But u cant salvage the white/blue item if it wasnt salvagable before…I tryed that once to get the Karkaslaying sigil which was high in price during the event…but I couldnt salvage it from the lionguarditems even after transmution….I didnt know at that point that there is a cultural vendor in lions arch with the same(at least almost) skins

Has anyone tried transmuting the back skin back off the white item and onto a new backpack? I heard that you can’t pull things off the white backpack strap, once you’ve put them on it. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

blue items also wont soulbind. I’ve even used greens. don’t buy white items from vendors to do it, won’t work.

You can also get it off the Backpack Sets in the trading post. Make sure you buy a set and not a cover. Those are about 2g a pop, so it’s not too bad.

Currently, every backpack except my fractal backpacks are accountbound and level 0 (except the Southsun ones). I also have every backpack in the game except the Guild Backpacks, the Fractal Capacitor (glowing), Rox’s Quiver, and the Book/Quiver from Mystic Forge. (I also threw away my non-flaming Halloween backpack. Tear)
