As title says, I played this game at launch and loved it. Life took over and I stopped, now, 2 years later I picked it up again and fell in love again. Here’s my problem:

I’m so lost it’s not even funny. I have a level 53 Engi and I don’t remember the story, I don’t remember half the PvP things and most importantly I have no idea what has changed since launch that is significant.

I’m tempted to just start fresh and re-learn everything from scratch but I invested so much time into that Engi it feels wrong.

Where do I start?

My main focus is 100% PVP although I want to do 1-80 PvE at some point to experience the full game, but mostly competitive pvp (tournaments/such).

Thanks

Hi! I was in the same boat as you and was completely lost not knowing what to do at all. I created a new character and it’s been really cool. They changed up the entire early-level experience (I prefer the new one, read everywhere that that’s quite a unique opinion though) as it’s been way easier to get into than before.

Have fun!

As Obery said, I recommend leaving the Engineer alone for now and create a new character to refamiliarize yourself with the game. In the GW world, it’s rarely ever a good idea to delete a character, especially one that is 2 years old. May lose out on future anniversary gifts.

If you want to “redo” the story your first toon went through, then make similar choices as far as race and background.

If your main focus is PvP follow these steps:
- Go to the top of your screen and click the helmet to adjust your stats and traits.
- Click the Crossed Swords next to the helmet and join into a few Practice matches.
- Once you feel you’re ready enter some Unranked or Ranked Arenas.
(Popular builds for a guideline can be found here: http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki in Ranked Arena)

All characters have access to ~80% of the traits/sigils/runes/stats etc, level/gear from PvE is irrelevant except for the looks. So you can take your Engineer or any other class you’d like to try without feeling underequiped. Through PvP you gain Tomes of Knowledge which can be used to gain levels. I’d slowly stock up on those for the Engineer to hit 80 on him/her (for WvW or general PvE) and start a new toon from the beginning as recommended above.

Like this you can enjoy PvP, the story from the beginning and not feel you ignore the Engineer completely.

The big change is the trait system. You won’t get traits until level 80 now.

DON’T delete that engi. Characters created before last April have all their traits unlocked. New characters have to go through a bad, bugged and boring unlock system to have functional builds, or pay 900% more to unlock the traits.

Metabattle ( http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki ) and Dulfy ( http://dulfy.net/2014/10/24/gw2-engineer-class-guide-by-doomblade-and-element/ ) have good build guides.

You can make a new character if you want, but I’d just keep going with the engineer. It’ll come back to you as you play.
