Once upon a time, when one hit a certain level, one could simply purchase a book from a trainer to unlock traits. This doesn’t appear to be the case anymore, as I started a new character and started leveling. I have no idea how I missed “unlocking master traits” but I did, and now I can’t allocate my trait points past 2 on any given path (you cannot spend any more points in this trait line until you receive training for master traits).

I feel like a complete noob here, but I’ve looked for information on this on the wiki and I’m even more confused now. Do I have to go out and hunt down all those skills manually, or will buying them do? And do I have to purchase/hunt down ALL of the low level skills to unlock the use of the master skills? As an experiment I bought and used one green, one blue and one gold skill but I still can’t spend past 2 trait points and visiting the trainer (as one would have done in the past) nets a “you haven’t enough experience, go out and do a thing and I’ll teach you later” response.

Like, I’m sure this is a totally simple thing and I’m just completely overlooking something essential but if someone could help me out here that would be super awesome.

The trait tiers (adept/master/grandmaster) unlock at specific levels (30/60/80) respectively, so you won’t be able to allocate more than two points in one line until you hit 60.

You do not have to unlock everything in one tier to get open up the next one. Once you get to the required level you will be able to add points there and that’s it.

You do however need to unlock the major traits. Buying vs unlocking by doing stuff is an either/or – if you buy them, no need to do the thing. If you do the thing, no need to spend money on top.
