Guild Wars 2

So I received a back brace for completing a personal story quest which has an upgrade slot. I have tried placing various jewels and runes in it but it will not accept any of them. Does anyone know what the deal is, am I missing something?

Also, I have levelled up quite a bit now since I got my brace and the stat boost is now negligible. I have looked on TP and can’t find any, are they quest only rewards or something?

It will only accept the lowest level gems, the pebbles (garnet pebbles, tiger’s eye pebbles, etc.) Not sure if that’s intended or if it’s a bug, but there you go.

Upgrade components must be within the same item tier as the equipment piece that you’re attaching them to. As a result, your ultra low level Back piece only takes the lowest tier of Gem (aka Pebble at that tier).

Back pieces come @ 30th from the Personal Story, possible @ 80th for completing the last stage of the Personal Story (and defeating the dragon), or from the Guild Armorer merchants in a few different level tiers. If you’re part of a guild, the NPC vendor is the way to go.

You get a green lv80 back slot item from a personal story quest nearing the end quest.
