I know GW2 is trying to prevent any “pure” tanks or heals. That isn’t what I’m hung up on. I’m trying to find out if I am getting less credit for playing a primarily “support” role in an event. There have been times I’ve buffed/healed/etc. and gotten bronze, despite being active throughout the entire event.

Some of my builds (such as my 2-handed burn build) just don’t work unless I’m in a group, but when I am, I’ve noticed a HUGE increase in overall DPS for my party. Between might stacking, constant triggers of Justice, and keeping the party healed (so they can focus on killing more than living), my party can just slay the event. However, I get the least credit, I think. Is it because events are based on damage alone? How does this promote support characters?

I feel like I might be punished for being “nice”. If I want to run in and do hella damage, I can – on another character. I just can’t pummel out that kind of damage on my guardian, and I feel like it’s a handicap I can’t compensate for.

Sorry to sound whiney, but I can’t find any clear information, despite reading every article I can get my hands on. I’m just lost, and kittened off.

You gain credit based on damage, mainly. But the damage is so low to get gold, even a naked upleveled can tag it. One advice: get in a group, it’s easier to gain credit if everyone hit.

About your support part, most support in this game come from damage mitigation, and a full berserker guard can do that same as you. Condi guardians are, let’s be blunt, really garbage, because you have only one damaging condition and in any group event that burn will be overwritten, greatly reducing your overall dps. The most important thing to know is: support isn’t tied to gear in gw2 pve, and survivability stats are selfish. Support comes from aegis, blinds, might stacks, protection, fury, proj. reflection, stability, condi clear, etc.

Heals usually aren’t that big of an issue but stopping too often to res people can be extremely detrimental to event credit. On the other hand is there even a reason to care about event credit as long as you get at least bronze? It’s certainly not the gold. Even gold level credit is less than a silver.

That is one of my pet peeves in the game, actually.

Personally I’d make a system so that, if damage is what measures participation, then if you do a support role, attribute part of their damage to you. For example, if you res someone, half of the damage they do for the next 10 or 15 seconds (guesstimating the average time it would take for someone to run from nearest waypoint) is attributed to you. If you heal someone, a percentage of their damage equal to the percentage of their max HP you healed is attributed to you and so on.

Of course, I don’t know how good or bad would work in practice, or whether it would even be possible considering the strain it would add to the server.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

If your damage is so low that you don’t even get credit, you probably need to stop hiding and “healing” constantly and just run in for a few seconds for a tag. Even a cleric bearbow can get more than enough damage for event credit in like ten seconds of auto-attacking with just the pet.

IMO, the only case where this can become a significant issue is a Condition Build on a single target enemy content (World Boss / Champ train). On the OPs question about Events, I suspect each event (or TYPE of Event) has there own Bronze/Silver/Gold requirements that must be met (I seriously doubt they are all Bronze=X damage, Silver=2x damage, Gold=3x damage, for example). In other words, I think the OP is mistakenly assuming that every time they get Bronze it’s because they didn’t cause enough damage…..there are likely other factors of the Event itself to consider (I’m not saying damage isn’t one of them, but I doubt it’s he ONLY one).
