Battle of Claw Island Personal Story Problem
My suggestion is to bring a friend along, or ask someone in Lion’s Arch to help you. I always see people asking and receiving help for this story quest.
If you can’t find one, add me to friends and I can help you after bleeding the clutch fluid in my car (about an hour or two).
I asked for help in LA when doing that story mission on my thief since I was pretty bad with the class back then. Ended up steamrolling it with the help of a random stranger.
That personal story mission tends to be rough for most people. I’ve solo’d it with all my chars other than my thief, but that was more because I hadn’t learned how to use the class well than due to a class inequality issue.
If you can’t find help just do full exploration of an extra zone, which should boost your level by at least 2-3, and then buy masterwork (green) gear and try again. Being a little over-leveled with good gear will make it considerably easier.

Are you on a NA or EU server Sandy? This is a difficult one to solo on a squishy class, if you are EU give me a /whisper tomorrow and I’ll help.

MarkusParkus.8467 TKY for the offer but I am NA in Feguson’s Crossing.
RAWR.4273 I was not aware you could party up at all in the personal story line. Also the
world situation might conflict. I am in NA Ferguson’s Crossing. My daughter and I had some problems along with our roommate when we found out we were in three different worlds and two different servers. We got that straightened out but is was confusing until then for sure. Grin.
Appreciate the help offer but I am going to have to take a break for several hours as it is almost dinner time here. I will probably be back on later and/or tomorrow but may not come back to Personal Story until I decompress a bit.
I found that step was very hard on my elementalist – until I realised that I had not upgraded her armor, weapon or accessories in a many levels. Once I did upgrade them to level-appropriate, I was able to complete the stage. I also had a second person sitting on stand-by in case they were needed for the help, but was able to complete it without them. That said, you can always ask another person to come along with you to make it easier (and more fun).
SandyRose, players are separated by Regions, but not by servers! (Except in the case of WvW). We can still play together despite being on different servers, the only limitation is WvW and regions.
If you mean the first Claw Island quest, the sequence out on the beach where you have to revive the lady commander, the key is to get her revived and get off the beach outrunning the ever spawning aggro. Scrambling to get down to the beach helps…I usually wear dps armor but all toughness/vitality jewelry at that level. Have never successfully done that one with less than 2 people.
During most of that story you don’t have to kill anything just run through it. The mobs re-spawn at a terrible rate. Most are not worth killing. After the charr leader goes down and you need to clear the courtyard you need to focus the vets. The non-vets just re-spawn and are attached to the vet. So kill the vet and all the minions go by-by. Need to kill them all if I remember correctly.
Also spec some condition removal in your build, if you haven’t already, all the risen missions will have you poisoned half the time and cleansing the conditions makes it a lot easier to survive.

Kill the Vets. Ignore the others (if you can). I think they’re the only ones you have to kill. The others just respawn forever.
Bring condition removal.
Bring swiftness/vigor. You want to be able to outrun baddies when they pile up on you.
Work in a circle. If you get a group killed (and hopefully there are some NPCs still alive) work your way around the circle systematically rescuing NPCs and gathering a small army.

first time I did this, I tried to clear the courtyard. turned out they just keep respawning forever and your real task is to revive that captain. A surprising amount of that whole instance can be run past.

Well I see that I have done something right. Every time a red circle surrounds me I boogy
out of it. That has cut down on the dying and damage a lot.
I have not seen any Veterans, at least on the left flank beach head nor a Captain down. I guess next time I will have to run to the right flank beachhead.
I usually clear the wall first and have not seen much activity in the courtyard but have taken out whatever is there.
Still confused why the artillery is not used as once the wall is cleared usually at least have of the guns are still useable.
Sure wish the objectives were better stated in the preliminary yak fests.
Has anyone figured out what the Trebuchets are supposed to be for? I can never seem to hit anything or if I do apparently no damage is done regardless of how or what I aim at.
Well got through that… what a PITA.
Congratulations! It’s a tough story mission.
The Vets are in the 2nd (last) Claw Island story, not the 1st one. There’s more NPC help for the 2nd one, though, because the heroes are supposed to win, not lose like in the 1st.
Thanks for all the help you all.
The key to success for me was being told by Mystic to resurrect the Beach Captain. After doing that the rest was fine until the order to light the beacons in the towers. I had NOT seen any towers and kept looking, like a doof, for them on the wall… Turned around to kill something and realized there were stairs by the arch where the commander was, DUH… Up the stairs until I saw a button and the rest was then quite
easy.
I reckon they could lay out the jabbering a little better so the objectives were a bit clearer without giving the challenge away but any game this size is going to have confusion and little grumble points in it.
Anyhow, you all, thanks for the good advice and the offers of help. I honestly was about to chuck the Living Story until you all stepped in.
