Hey everyone, I don’t really post on these forums very much, but I thought I would for once. I always see posts about people wanting to know what build is best for a certain aspect of the game and I just can’t set back and watch someone go the same path I did when I started playing. People have been getting builds confused with skill lately, so I wanted to share a type of guide for the new players to try out. Hope you like it.
1.) Pick a race and profession you think are cool.
- a.) Honestly, this sounds like it shouldn’t even be a part of a guide, but it’s very important. I can’t even begin to tell you the number of people that decide to delete a character and their progression because they hate their race/look.
2.) Play you class to lv 80 in PvE
- a.) This will allow you to learn your profession’s mechanics at your own pace. Basically, you’re learning in easy mode.
- b.) If you have the gold, try to switch between weapon sets every 10 levels.
- i.) (e.g., 21-30, you could use sword/dagger & short bow, then use axe/warhorn & longbow from 31-40)
- ii.) This will allow you to recognize which weapons work best with your play style.
- iii.) Try to do every dungeon that is available to you at least once every 10 levels or whenever a guild-mate needs assistance.
- a.) This will get your familiar with the dungeons & it it’s a nice way to make some gold and keep your armor up-to-date.
3.) Play PvP for at least 10 levels
- a.) After already leveling to 80, you should know what all your weapons can do and know which are combo friendly. Now for the hard part. PvP will teach you the hard way that timing is everything. Yes, you will get lucky just pressing buttons every once in a while, but never against a skilled player. Each player brings something new to the table. From the way they react and dodge to the way they use their skills, traits, and armor. 10 levels aren’t much, but by the time you get to your goal, you should be able to say you have some skill.
- b.) Honestly, this is the best way to increase your skill with a profession. PvE is nice suggest trying team matches after you have some more skill under your belt. Team matches are on another level compared to random arena.
4.) Gear up
- a.) This is the most expensive part, and that’s why it comes after the PvP. In PvP, you should’ve come to understand what kind of playstyle you enjoy, so your armor should sort of resemble the amulet/runes/sigils you used in PvP with slight variation to your own choosing.
5.) Go own some people in WvW
- a.) In my opinion, this isn’t as fun as PvP to me, but it’s always hilarious to take on several people at one time and out-class them on a so called “broken class”. (I play ranger)
Hope you enjoyed my simple guide. Hope it helps in some way!
