Hello!
So i recently came back to the game as a couple old friends got gw2 with the nice sale they had and wanted me to come as well.
Been enjoying the game again but as its been roughly 2 years, i’m absolutely lost. I cant recall the exact time when i quit ( had one brief comeback for like a month once) so its hard to ask "whats changed since… ".
The last update i remember was the Fractals being introduced into the game and i played for around a month after that.
So basically what im asking is;
How has the story been proceeding? I went to Lions Arch and was….baffled to say the least :P
Any major updates changing some big aspects of the game? This is kind of a bad question as within the last 2 years i’ve pretty much forgotten everything from instances to daily farming.
Daily routine, what should i be doing nowadays? I saw theres some daily tasks i can do for nice rewards but thats pretty much it. Which instances/dungeons should i be doing, world bosses? AGH i cant remember anything anymore!
Are there any fancy guides anywhere for what i should do daily etc? I’ve been playing swtor lately and using Dulfy and noticed she/he(?) does gw2 stuff as well but havent looked there yet in depth.
Might it be helpful to just level a new alt from 1-80 and try to learn along the way or just continue with my current levelcappers?
So that turned out as a big wall of text, sorry incase there was a nice guide related to this somewhere already, i did try to search around a little bit but im definately not known for my searching abilities lol.

There have been a lot of changes. More than can be easily put on the forum.
Here is an overview of Season One’s story line: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Living_World_season_1
Here is an overview of Season Two’s story line:

I suggest you read the blog posts. Page forward till you get to about the date you stopped playing and read the ones that interest you. https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/page/56/
I would not delete any chars at this time. They revamped the trait system and most people don’t like it. Your old chars will have the old trait system so keep them. You might just play for a while on your highest level char till you remember the game. You can decide to level one of your other chars at that time if you wish.

The footage that it was made from can be found on the Guild Wars 2 Youtube channel if you page back a bit.

The major character development change has to do with leveling up new characters especially the Trait system. Fortunately the trait system is being replaced again when the expansion hits.
Other changes have to deal with the shift from character base to account base. Dyes are now unlocked for the entire account. Same is true with armor and weapon skins including gem shop ones. Same with minis. A unified wallet.
On the server, the concept of server identity now only applies to WvW. Players across servers (NA and EU server clusters are still separate) will find themselves on the same map due to Megaserver tech which seeks to fill maps will population over instance for each server. Guilds are now unified across servers as well with full privileges no matter which server your character calls home.
The dailies went through several itterations over the years and the current form provides 4 tasks in PvE, PvP and WvW, do any three of the twelve for 10 AP. The previous daily and monthly reward of laurels are now part of the login rewards, which sort of replaced the monthly.
Boatload of various balance tweaks in PvE and PvP. And most recently, removing WvW maps from World Completion.

Also, you can purchase episodes from season 2 for 200 gems (roughly 28g) and play them. Episodes now come with achievements for multiple playthroughs, and season 2 had Carapace armour skin rewards, which you can also get in one of the two new areas, Silverwastes. the other one, Dry Top, also be accessed through Brisban Wildlands. The entry for both maps are on the Westside of the map.
Hi Elronor,
You’ve got some good responses already, but if you’re interested in a fun and informative overview of major changes in the game, check out these series of summary vids made especially for GW2 Boomerangs a.k.a. returning players (I’m a ‘Boomerang’ myself and found these extremely helpful): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMgOinWh2Y7FbZyBhlqgHoPI2w8_76_1w
Try not to absorb all the changes at once, just watch a few videos or read the recommended blog posts for a general idea – then just take one of your characters into the world to encounter the change first-hand. I’d recommend starting with PvE, so there’s no pressure on you as you’re re-familiarising yourself with things.
If you run into something confusing in-game, just ask about it on map chat or even another player in your vicinity, there’s bound to be someone who’ll know the answer.
Good luck and welcome back to Tyria!
