Hey all. I am new and just hit 80 on my thief. Just bought some gems so I could equip myself with Exotic gear.

Now I am wondering what the fastest way to work towards ascended gear is. I am looking for Marauders armor and Berserkers everything else. I realise this may take some time since I am new 80 and only have about 100 gold at the moment. Just wanting to know best path for me to start working on ascended.

There are a few collection achievements that award Ascended boxes of Armor and Weapons. (Bioluminescent, Leystone, Ambrite weapon collections to name a few). Check your achievement panel and look around at what is rewarded for tasks.

Elite Specialisation collections also give a related weapon to the profession you complete it for (eg shield for Chronomancer.)

Boxes can drop ingame, high tier fractals, PvP, raids and WvW.

Rings you can buy from fractals, they’re easy to earn aslong as you do the dailies.

Doing guild missions will give enough commendations to buy one accessory a week.

Laurels can be used for rings and accessories too.

The new LS3 maps offer ascended trinkets for Unbound magic and specific map currencies.

The most reliable way to make sets of armor and weapons is to craft them. Visit gw2crafts.net for complete guides which are refreshed when opened, to give the most efficient way to level each craft.

Just sucks I have to craft armor. Never have been a fan of crafting. I do envy the people who enjoy it. Looks like this game is going to force my hand though. Oh well.

That’s a great guide that covers nearly everything, including “easy” variations. It’s current through LS3.5, i.e. it hasn’t been updated for the current release.

Also , if you plan on getting ’’stronger’’ stats like Viper, Trailblazer, Minstrel’s, DO NOT craft exotic of theses because with ascended you can do a ‘’stat swipe’’ in the mystic forge (it removes infusions and runes). I also made you a real fast-made list of how you can get ascended items.

Trinkets : Fractals (buy/drop), LWS3 Maps, Guild Missions, Laurels, Raids, Ranked sPvP, WvW skirmishs.

Armor : Crafting, Fractals (buy/drop), Some Achievements, Loot (mabye Silverwaste map) , Raids, Ranked sPvP, WvW skirmishs, Guild Missions.

Weapons : Crafting, Fractals (buy/drop), Some Achievements, Loot, Raids, Ranked sPvP, WvW skirmishs, Guild Missions.

Back Items : LWS3 Maps, Raids, Mystic Forge (go see the recipes), Some Achievements, Some crafts, certain Raids.

For the weapon, Tequatl can drop it, I also got one from the Karka Queen pre-quest
For the armor, Tripe Trouble Event can drop it

There are some collection like the Ley-Line Armor Collection on the Dragon’s Stand that give you a choose of ascended armor

HoT Story, if finishes give you a Broken Caladbolg that you can do a restore quest to make it an ascended (5 type, and you can re-choose it with 1k unbound magic)

For the Trinket like acc/ring, you can get it from WvW / Living World map
AFAIK the ascended back item that are crafted didn’t have stat like viper/sinister

Keep your mats since you might want to craft one of the ascended armor/weapon yourself

As for me (if you wondering), I got my asc weapon all from tequatl and karka pre-quest, 2 asc armor from Triple Trouble, 3 asc armor by crafting, all trinket from Living World Map

Get all your ascended trinkets first, rings you can get for 10 pristine fractal relics which are the cheapest and easiest you can buy (core stats only).

You’ll then need earrings, which you can buy with laurell’s or you can farm from PvE; you’ll need one from bitterfrost frontier and one from ember bay as they are unique. You can also get a backpiece and amulet from either of these maps.

Once you have all your trinkets start going through fractals and get to level 40 which you can farm to buy +9 infusions. Infuse and attune both your rings so you have an extra 4 infusion slots to push up to higher fractals.

Get as high as you can in fractals and do your dailies which are one of if not the best way to get ascended gear, which is of course free, then you can swap the stats to what you need and save all your gold.

Do not bother crafting ascended armour, it’s not worth it. You would gain more damage from upgrading your weapons than you would for a full set of armour. Just wait until you can do T4 daily fractals, you should easily pick up a full set of armour and weapons in a month or less.

Another thing I highly recommend you can do is sPvP. If you complete all the chests in ranked you will get yourself either one ascended armour piece or one weapon. You will be able to save your tickets to buy the ascended precursor for the legendary backpiece for free, and, you will pick up enough ascended shards to buy yourself a couple of earrings and an amulet in the process.

Whilst doing sPvP you can do the reward track for bloodstone fen, picking up blood rubies which you can use to buy stat swappable ascended rings, or, you can do reward tracks to pick up free exotic berserker gear for your char or alts.

IMO it’s not worth buying any gear in GW2, you can get it all easily for free and save you gold for legendaries/components/skins e.t.c.

Well kitten . I decided to get marauders trinkets too since I can get them now and I am dying SOOO easily all the time in hot.

Now I find out that the laurels and fractals don’t have marauders. I have to raid? Bugger. Just farmed up to be able to buy first pieces! My bad I should have researched how hard some gear is to get and how hard the thief is before I started playing.
I would try other gear but I have been reading that I will get kicked from a lot of groups if I use more defensive gear

Think I might delete this character and start fresh with something easier. Any suggestions?

Looks like the threads I was looking at are a little outdated.

Edit: changing my armor from full berserkers to 3 valkyrie and 3 knight. Should help with surviving until I get better. Can start adding the berserkers back in slowly if I find I am improving. Also changing runes to daredevil.

I was stuck in the mindset that I HAVE TO HAVE berserkers. If I get kicked from groups for not running it 100% then kitten them!
