Q:

I have been running around Orr & any large chest event, hitting as many as I can. One thing I noticed is the amount of people standing around said event saying “LFG for event” , “Looking to join a group” or “Any groups have an open spot?”. Is there some “hidden/not well known” benefit to grouping up?
Im always grouped with my girlfriend, and loot hasnt been any different then when I’m solo late at night. I know I dont get loot when she kills a mob I do not tap. Otherwise the only benefit I see myself with it is seeing where everyone is going, and staying together hoping events. Is it maybe boons take priorty of party members before other players?

People group together in events for easier mob tagging. As most of the players now know that you need to deal a certain percentage of a mob’s health to qualify for exp/loot, grouping makes it a lot easier because dealt damage for kill credit is shared in a group, so as long as you have hit the mob for once, you group’s damage will take care of the rest. It’s good for solo people to still kill mobs and get kill credit in events when they die almost instantly

Recycle is no doubt right, that would provide some benefits. However, for the most part I don’t think forming a group is at all required or especially valuable in these events. I myself am usually in a group with my boyfriend, and we just use it to keep track of each other – I rarely bother to group with strangers, though I enjoy playing alongside them plenty.

Recycle is right. Your parties total damage is used to determine if you did enough damage to qualify for loot. And as long as you ‘tagged’ an enemy and your party does enough damage, you will get loot.

So, more times than not, it is better to be in a group to get the maximum amount of loot possible.

Also, if you have at least 3 guild members in the party, it will generate an extra 100 influence for each event you succeed at.

Are you sure of this? I commonly play with 2 other guild members over a period of several hours, doing events as they come up, and I haven’t seen this +100 influence boost per event in the guild panel.

Very interesting on how this works. I never thought it made “That Much” of a difference in loot. Has there been further testing in this “grouping = more or better loot” mechanic?

Seems like I could (as my engineer) throw 1-2 grenades, taping enough mobs & just sit back & let the group kill for my loot, possibly letting my group give me rares/exotics?

(I do not sit back though since I frown on the “half-butt/lazy” behavior of things. Makes the fight last longer then it should anyways.)

EDIT: For the influence question, it reads like a group of 2 at minimum for an event will get 20 influence, not including infulence boosts. /shrug

Well afaik the guild log only shows total influence gained from events from everyone in the guild over the course of an hour, it’s not granular enough to register individual events.

But I went to double check and I was indeed in error: the 3+ guildies for 100 extra influence is for dungeons, not events. The event bonus is 20 extra influence for 2+ guildies in a party; and it’s per event, so if you have 4 parties all with guildies doing the same event, you still only get the bonus 20 once.

Be careful how you word that. There is no guarantee that you will ever get loot, regardless of how much damage you or your group does. Try killing mobs solo for about 5 minutes and tell me how many mobs fail to drop loot. By solo, I mean nobody else around the area, so you are dealing 100% of the damage.

I think the whole “grouping for loot” is an urban legend…

You are correct. That should have read ‘you will be eligible to get loot’.

There are plenty of times enemies do not drop loot even if you are eligible.

I’ve gotten some group invites at events from people who say you get better drops as a group.
Loot drops are what they are, being in a group doesn’t affect the quality or quantity

Based on Colin’s comments about doing enough damage to qualify for loot, I’ll stick to my belief that being in a party helps qualify me for more loot. Party damage does count towards your qualification for loot so you should end up with more chances at loot, thus more loot.

But I hear plenty of people doubt the party theory. To each, his own.

They have relaxed the qualifications for loot so it should be easier now than before for an individual to get more loot. But I doubt it would still be better than being in a party.
