Best DPS class?
PvE, yes warrior and thief.
WvW? It’s really situational imo. Like tower defense I’d much rather be running my grenade kit engi etc. Just depends on the situation.
sPvP? Exclude warrior I think. I’m not into sPvP, so I can’t say.
Warrior for pve as you can do a pretty decent damage without being a glass cannon like thief, though thief shines in pvp with all its utility skills.

Thieves don’t necessarily need to be glass cannons to be good. In fact I find it more useful to have a thief better equipped to survive over one that goes down a lot, of course our group is not trying to do speed runs where every one is about equally glass. But also, the same holds true for warrior, there are warrior builds that go down fast and others that are built to better survive. I even run dungeons with my thief, often times being the least to go down yet maintaining good dps and over longer periods. After all, cant dps if you are face down all the time

Greatsword Warriors are very fun for their damage output. You have two abilities that require some timing but pay off wonderfully. The infamous Hundred Blades, which roots you in one spot facing the same direction, which I feel nailed the risk/reward factor better than most abilities in the game. And a whirling attack on 3 that, if you aim it at a wall near your target, can hit them on every swing.
tops dps class is hammer elementalist, support. you dont even need a dps meter because its that plain. its alot more than my glass cannon war or guard.
auto attack once the target has 1 vulnerability and is burning looks like 6k, 6k 9k when all mods are met and 25 stacks of might its 9k, 9k, 12k. one hit per second and each hit heals your group for 550 ish and yourself for 750 when staff equiped.
and no restrictions you can run circles and hit for that, and its all ae dammage as well.

it adds a possible 75% base damage
stay in water permanent, theres a bout 6 seconds you will be without a hammer in a stationary burn fight like cof last boss, usually not an issue. use staff 2 hits for 8 to 11k or throw a heal or 2 or ae chill depending on whats needed.
use signet of restoration, (you’ll never have to hit it for a heal) arcare shield(adds 3% crit dammage) and arcane power( adds another 3% crit dammage) hammer of course, and elite that meets the demand.
play it and theres truly no need for any meter, it would be compared to a war with full time hundred blades that didnt break when he walked arround.
best part it isnt glass cannon its actually massive support

In 60 sec, you have 50 hits. With your nubers, every hit deals 10k on average.
50 × 10 / 60 = 8.33k DPS – ooops, warrior is already better.
But wait, there is more. 9 – 12k are crits. But you have just 33% critchanche. + 20% fury. + 5% discipline.
and you go down to ~6k DPS. Cute. With 25 Might and vuln, a warrior outdps you with axe autohits. I’m not very impressed.
