Best GW1 class and campaign?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Mini-Expansion-Vengeance/first#post6473305
E/Mo (Elementalist Monk) was my first character, but GW1 isn’t like other MMOs in that it’s very difficult to do pretty much anything solo, unless you’re level 20 in low level zones or really know what you’re doing with the hundreds of skills and thousands of skill combinations. Look for henchmen (be sure to get healer monks first) to help when you go out where the monsters are.
W/Mo (Warrior Monk) was another favorite of mine.
As for campaigns, I liked Factions the most but Nighfall has superior henchmen called heroes (henchmen with customize-able skill trays and better AI) that you can unlock by doing the story.
To begin with, though, I’d say Prophecies. And E/R is a good one to go with (gives you the ability to have a pet once you find and unlock that skill) as well as a good regen skill (troll unguent). Again the biggest issue of dying a lot is not having the correct henchmen (if you have any at all) with you. On an E/R you’re probably going to want to take 1-2 melee henchmen and a healer in Ascalon. 2 healers, 1-2 melee and mesmer/ranger henchman in Shiverpeaks/Kryta/Maguuma/Crystal Desert (when party size goes up to 6). 2 melee, 2 healers, 1-2 ranged and a mesmer/ranger in Southern Shiverpeaks/Ring of Fire when your party is up to eight.
You don’t get any henchmen until after pre-searing Ascalon, henchmen are found in each of the cities and outposts (usually near a door out into the instanced explorable areas).

played 9k hours on Monk, was r11 Hero and r5 Champ (or r4 I forgot)
nothing beats the original campaign.
If you aren’t a monk, though, I would say monk is the best secondary class to begin with since it gives you access to a lot more heals than the other classes do at the start. And if you go with E/Mo you have a lot more energy than other classes in case you need to use those skills on yourself or henchmen/party members.
I did mesmer when I first played the games years ago. This time around I went with Elementalist. The game is fairly easy to do solo. I’d suggest getting all of the campaigns and expansion as you’ll get access to heroes and they’re all fun to play.
If you’re not too high of a level right now, I suggest at re-doing Ele in Factions. I believe I got to level 18 or so by the time I got off the starter island. There’s a quest you can repeated over and over to finish up the rest of the levels in minimal time spent.
My main in GW1 was a MoE (Monk/Elementalist) and I loved her to pieces. I wish we had the Monk in GW2.
I also really enjoyed my Ranger, Ritualist (awesome casting animations) and Mesmer.
Definitely use henchmen for everything. Everyone will have a different opinion on which campaign to start with. For me, I really liked the Nightfall campaign and I think it’s much easier for people just starting out. The heroes are way better than the henchmen because you can change their talent specs/spells and control them.

Make sure to unlock heroes. If need be start with the nightfall campaign.
Then go and slowly build those up and get them the skills they need (read up on http://gwpvx.gamepedia.com/PvX_wiki on pve meta builds for heroes).
Once you are done with that, start finishing campaigns, unlocking stuff etc.
As mentioned GW1 can be very unforgiving and is designed around playing with 8 people. Henchmen will not get you far, you really need 7 heroes to complete most now.
EDIT: small write up on the campaigns:
Prophecies + EotN = most peoples favorite campaign, quite long, ties in to GW2 the most, very slow leveling
Factions = fastest leveling, quite challenging, lot’s of enemy splash damage killing of henchmen etc.
Nightfall = introduction of heroes, slower than factions but a lot faster than prophecies as far as leveling is concerned

My ritualist and my dervish are my two favorites. If you have all three campaigns, I’d either start a Nightfall character OR play a character from either of the other campaigns and then go to Elona once you reach level 10. Coming to Elona from Prophecies/Factions, you’ll be able to unlock four heroes right away (two monks, a warrior, and a dervish), and you’ll have fast access to at least one more soon after. If you have EOTN, you can also do the very first couple of small quests to unlock Vekk (ele), Ogden (monk), and Gwen (mesmer).

I played mostly a Monk/Mesmer healer. Ele/Monk was great too with the energy regen. Overall I was pretty attached to monk in the long run. Loved their armor and just the large amounts of ability from the class..
Ritualist is a lot of fun though. Probably the easiest class to level and do most of the content with imo.
Best campaign is probably as much of an opinion as the classes. Since they all had their perks. I think overall the Prophecies campaign is probably the most interesting to tie in with GW2 and Eye of the North expansion. Factions and Nightfall were pretty interesting in their own accord as well though. Factions is generally the shortest, but it can be very rough for a brand new player when you get about halfway through the campaign.
Wait guys he is mostly going to play alone, on that case, a spirit master ritualist would be the best
easiest to most difficult, roughly: warrior (tank), ele (high damage), monk (protection and healing), ranger (survivability plus pet tank), necro (minion master but blood magic not easy to use), mesmer (glass cannon control) of original professions.
as far as solo, yea a signet of spirits Rit with the sunspear skill that teleports your spirits to you is probably the easiest in terms of just general gameplay
I mained Necro for years and personally found it to be the most enjoyable. The Minion Master/Bomber builds are great for PvE and can solo just about anything. In PvP AoE Curses was alot of fun and the survivability was great.
The Ritualist Spirit Spammer build is also solid for soloing, but is more suited for ranged combat. I kept mine mainly for casual farming/PvE as it gets kind of boring just dragging your spirits along to kill everything for you.
Necromancer, hands down.
With soul reaping you can effectively play ele/mesmer/ritualist/ or almost anything else as your secondary without worrying too much about energy management.
Do nightfall to unlock heroes so you have some people with you. Henchies can work in earlier areas just fine, but once you progress through the story in the game missions will require more coordination and special skill use that the henchies just don’t have access to.
Rank up in Factions as well, the player-only skills are excellent, and allow you to full spirit spam with no problems. Doing this on a necromancer means endless health/energy regen and 6 full damage spirits at your disposal, who travel with your party. It is boring as kitten after a while, but it will allow you to clear zones in hard mode with ease.
do Eye of the North as well for skill unlocks. pain inverter is a boss killer button. get your mesmer heroes skills/armor/etc first. capture elite skills every time you get a chance.
Until you get some Heros (and unlock some skills to give them…and yourself), the game is going to be brutal trying to solo. I suggest starting in Factions (can get some skills quickly) or in Nightfall (can get some decent Heroes kind of fast).
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
I’m getting misty eyed just reading this. I may have to re-install.
Crystal Desert
I started out as R/E in Factions. Got thwomped. Scrapped her. Rolled a Monk, started in Prophecies. She ran with my husband’s ele. Then I started a Necro and she ran with my husbands warrior. Ah the nostalgia…
Anyway, back to the point. My favorite classes for GW1 would be: Ele, Monk, Necro, Mes, Rit. Probably in that order, though my mes was primarily for Pvp purposes where the others where pve based.
As for favorite campaign, Factions. No competition there for me. It was a bit of a kitten to get started in, since I don’t feel it teaches the mechanics of the game or allows you to “get to know” your class as well as Prophecies did, but it’s my favorite storyline and it has some lovely areas.
Prophecies is my personal favourite, and as for Class. I’d say roll a warrior till you get use to the game. But I love playing warriors in GW1/2, I had 5 in guild wars 1 and have 4 in guild wars 2.
Warrior/monk is a good combo, just for the reusable rez skill. You will need a rez skill in GW1 till you get better at it, or get hero monks(from Nightfall and Eye of the North, my second favourite). I personally use a warrior/ranger. Poison signet to add degen on top of bleeding.
