What are the best methods for getting a precursor/which is the most efficient? (I am shooting for the lover to make the dreamer)
Is putting exotics into the mystic forge the best way, mystic forging rares, or simply farming gold and buying the precursor?
What are the relative and general creation rates from rares and exotics in the mystic forge?

from what I’ve read/heard, just farming gold and buying it is the most reliable. That way you’ll always be making progress (somtimes backwards if the price goes up or you lose/spend some gold)

As for rares/exotics into the MF, that’s more if you’re into gambling. You could put 4 rares into the MF and get the precurosr your first time, or you could spend 3x the price of the precurosr in the first place putting 1000s of rares in never to see it.
