I know this question has been asked before, a lot, but this is my first week here so thank you for being so patient with newcomers.

I’m a level 10 Elementalist and I’m about to start crafting and wondering what are the optimal choices for an Ele and why?
Should I go for more than 1 and switch between them?

You can take 2 crafting professions.

You could take tailoring, but with the price of wool/cotton/linen/silk it’s going to be pretty expensive for you and it’d be incredibly cheaper to just buy what you need on the Trading post.

You could also take Artificer to craft your weapons. It’s a kitteneaper and also easier to level. Cooking isn’t too bad too.

You can actually learn all the crafts, though you can only have 2 active at a time and you must pay to swap between them (or spread them out over alts as I did). Don’t expect to make money with them. The crafted items on the TP sell for less than their component mats. At end-crafting-game there are some things that you must make for yourself if you want them, including the Ascended armor and weapons. Those aren’t vital to success in the game but have some interesting skins if you are willing to spend the time, money, and effort to make them.

If you think you’ll be sticking with it all the way, then Artificer, Huntsman, and Weaponsmith get you a spread of weapons. Tailor gets you armor. Jeweler helps with trinkets (nothing ascended yet, that craft stops at 400). Cooking is just fun, unless you are big into making consumables instead of buying them for cheap.

So in other words I should try them all and level them all together. I don’t mind doing that, I just have to figure out a system and stick to it.

The reason I wanna do crafting is because it’s just fun and as you said I need it to craft special end-game items so ye why not.

I’m gonna begin with Artificer and Weaponsmith for now and see where that leads.

I hope I’m making the correct choices.

Well, if it doesn’t work out for you, you can always switch for a fee. Seriously, there is no wrong choice here. The two you have chosen to begin with will produce some stuff you can use.

I’d say that Artificier is the best choice, since a large number of its items are useful (scepter/focus/staff/potions/crystals) to the Ele.

My Ele’s other choice is also Weaponsmith, but I’ve honestly never used it yet* - it’s usually cheaper to save your items up, buy the equipment you want from the trading post, and only use your crafting materials to sell or make the rarer weapon skins.

*Ele main is the only one with an Ascended weapon, and she runs Staff the majority of the time
