Hello,

I’m new to GW2 and because I’m a healer in every mmo I play, I’d like to ask which class is the best healer in GW2?

Thx in advance!

Ranger. Particularly the druid specialization. It heals well and it also comes with a large series of unique buffs to increase the whole party’s DPS.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

Fast answer: Ranger with the elite spec druid and weapon staff…it is the only elite that makes a class changing to an healer.

Also…elementalist with water attunement are healers, for my taste.

When you want to be a druid healer you need to unlock this (and…but that i am not sure, maybe need the HoT expansion).

When you want to be an elementalist healer: you can be it without any expansion…but elementalist is also a light armor class so you need movement to survive…also learning the elementalist can be very difficult, since you have 4 attunements (water, fire, earth and air) and every attunement changes the skills on your weapon.

Be aware that in choosing to be a healer, there are very few areas where a dedicated healer is required. All classes have self-heal skills, so a lot of end-game content do not require one. This incentivizes players to maximize dps and mitigate damage with dodges, blocks, blinds, etc.

Raids are the primary content needing a healer. Even here, you can’t be “just” be the healer and stand in the corner spamming heals. Everyone one in a raid has to actively participate in the mechanics, and in some encounters, changing aggro means you may even need to tank while healing everyone.

As other people said already: You wanna go with ranger aka druid, if you want to be a healer at the current state of the game. You will still need some damage builds for playing alone in Open World, Dungeons or low-tier Fractals (kind of Mini Dungeons which are a big part of the instanced end game PvE, besides Raids).

Healing is barely single targeted in this game, meaning you have to use a lof of AoE spells for healing and need to consider the boss mechanic, moving patterns of the boss as well as your party members while also buffing all the time and dealing with all the mechanics of the encounter.

Druid (ranger): Current PvE raid meta. Heals for the amount that is just enough and provides a big range of offensive buffs.

Auramancer tempest (elementalist): Used mostly in PvP and 1 (maybe 2, but it’s a stretch) raid encounters. High survivability and defensive support.

Ventari (revenant): More of a hipster healer than anything truly popular. Used in one specific raid encounter due to high survivability and in PvP shenanigans.

Healer Guardian: As a pure healer, is an option for rather borderline insane hipsters that are very into some sort of cleric RP. Technically capable of being a full healer-focused class, but doesn’t really exceed any of the candidates mentioned earlier. If looked at as an offensive frontliner with certain supportive capabilities, is a strong meta choise for mass PvP known as World vs World.

Minstrel Chronomancer (mesmer): another hipster choise. Is mostly a raid tank with a kittenload of all-around supportive buffs. Healing is more of a secondary focus.

Bear in mind that beyond the issue of the game being designed for players not to need dedicated healers other than themselves (except in raids), a very real frustration will lie in the fact that you can’t toggle other players’ health bars to always-visible. So you either have to watch the party/squad UI (and lose attention to your immediate surroundings and still not be sure where the hurting person is) or keep waving your cursor over people to flash their green bars.

You may wish to consider going for support builds more than specifically healer builds. At that point Guardian is a solid choice as it is chock full of buffs and cleanses and it feels like you’re there to help the team.
