A friend of mine wants to join me on TC for WvW action. He had heard that if he deleted all his characters he could jump onto TC for free. I told him that sounded fishy. So what’s the best solution for someone who has no gems and wants to transfer to a high population server?

Yes he can transfer his account at no charge if there are no characters on it. Just remember you cannot recover deleted characters or their gear after you move. Here is the wiki that has the information that will help you and your friend.

make sure to do a guild and pump in as much stuff/gold as he can into that have you added to it so you can then invite him to guild again

Yup, deleting all characters lets you switch for free. Nothing fishy at all; it’s a truly legit way to transfer for free. But the free transfer comes at the cost of losing all your gold and gear and such if you don’t move it first.

nah you dont have to lose it if u put it in guild bank since megaserver you can do that now

I helped a friend do this who was new to the game just a couple weeks ago. If they haven’t invested too many hours it’s totally worth it.

And you don’t lose your gold OR any items you put in your account bank. So having a guild bank would be useful for more items but not necessary. I can verify this because my friend did the delete and server switch just a few weeks ago.

You don’t need to put anything in a guild bank. All personal bank spaces are saved, all gold is saved. Just soul-bound items are lost and anything on the deleted characters.

TC is usually a full server. Make sure there is room before he deletes his characters.

Also everything in his personal bank and wallet goes with so he will only loss soulbound gear. Everything else he can take with.
