Hello everyone.
I am currently playing as a ranger, but as I recently hit 80 I am now in the need of some gold.
There are lots of events etc. in Cursed Shore i.e. where farming is the key to victory.

I am thinking about creating a new character for the purpose of farming monsters, mining etc.
I know GW2 is not about farming, or atleast they are trying to make it inefficient, however I have heard elementalists are kind of awesome when you want to farm.
As a ranger I feel very limited and I do not have many AOE’s or spells hitting many foes.

Which profession would you recommend for farming? Please do not just make this a listing thread. Let us know why you say the profession you do!

Have a nice day.

I see a lot of Rangers on Gandhara farming gold and Karma.. their bow AOE is great to tag multiple mobs for looting rights :-)

Lyssia Iceblood of Gandara – I sometimes win… but not often :-(

I believe the cooldown of that AOE is quite long. There must be better alternatives?
(I am playing with a shortbow!)

Warriors seem to find quite a bit. I farm on my ranger, but my wife’s warrior seems to pick up more goodies than my ranger.

My ranger uses axe/warhorn & longbow for farming.

I do keep a shortbow for questing and WvW though.

Thank you for the replies.
Which weapon combination would you recommend on a warrior, and why?

Also;
Any thoughts on elementalists?

GS. It hits hard and lets you have strong mobility.

You could try Axe/Axe if you don’t like GS.

You could try ele’s but you need to put in more work for less results. Also their AoE is really slow so they can have a hard time tagging in some cases.

Interesting. I had no idea warriors had that much potential. Thank you

My experience so far

If you’re in a group, farming, best professions I’ve seen so far for loot and mob tagging are:

Guardian – Staff weapon / greatsword
Ele – Staff – Air (first attack bounces off enemies and easily spammable) or keep switching elements for their AoE attacks.
Ranger – not as good in tagging as the others. It’s good if you know when to use your traps and your aoe bow attack because if those are in cooldowns, you’re stuck attacking one enemy though, piercing arrow trait solves that issue a bit.
– off hand torch has an AoE but it’s not ground targetting.

I farm with a ranger using LB/SB, but I always carry warhorn and axe too, and with two traps you have:

SB – the spread shot, fast auto attack with piercing
LB – Barrage, piercing
Traps – one to three AOE if specced for ground targeting that have 12 – 20 second cooldown
Axe – ricochet (3 targets), spread shot

Although I also play a warrior with greatsword – and the greatsword can hit multiple targets with all its attacks (except for 5).

And don’t forget how awesome you are at fighting underwater as a ranger! Hey, why are you laughing at me?

Guardian, GS/Staff

I have an 80 war and GS, Guardian is better if you’re talking about Orr farming DE events.

Easier to tag mobs which is all that matter. Get in a farm group, tag a mob once with staff, and you get loot. Or WW with GS and tag a bunch of mobs as well.
