Best profession for resource gathering?
I like my ranger, but that’s more because it’s also my general farming character (lots of aoe). But the pet can be used to distract and help in some sticky situations, you can up the toughness pretty nicely (plus signet of stone can give you invulnerability), and you can get constant 25% passive movement buff with relatively reliable swiftness on top (eagle pet, among others).

I’m glad you mentioned “general farming”. My engineer has been my main (90%) and with my comfort that I already have in general farming with that profession I may not want to risk soulbinding to a character I may not grow as comfortable playing.
It has me question: don’t I want the unlimiteds on a character I know I’ll be playing “out-there” the most and not necessarily the “best resource farmer”…
besides, if I am resource farming, I can gear up for the zone.
btw played a ranger in GW1 & can’t wait to play it in GW2 but I am an “alt-oholic” and messing around with some other profs first. Thanks for your post, now I’m putting ranger back on my short list.
Warrior equipped with sword/warhorn and greatsword, along with signet of rage.
Sword has leap, warhorn and signet of rage stack for perma-swiftness, and greatsword has two movement skills.
For sticky situations, you have two stability skills, and one with immune to damage for 4 seconds.
Ranger,
If you do a regen ranger you can let the pet take agro while you harvest and then run away. No harm if the pet dies (most likely will not). I wound up putting them on my guardian hoping it will force me to play the guardian more.
