I’m just wondering if there is enough of a trend in how the currency exchange fluctuates that can help me predict the best time to convert gems to gold. I’m aware you can see the trend history on gw2spidy and I’ve used it to some extent, however I thought it might be worth asking on the forums to see if I could get some information from people who have a better idea of trends on a larger scale that might help give me some direction.

In other words, do trends exist that any of you understand well enough to suggest to me things such as what is likely the best:

Time of day to convert? Day of the week? of the month?

Generally, big sales, or when new stuff comes out in the gemstore, are when you should convert gems to gold. Demand for gems always spikes up around this time. Since ANet started the practice of having regular sales on most weekends, prices don’t rise as high as they used to, but once in a while when a lot of popular stuff (especially account upgrades, like Bank/Bag/Character slots) come out at the same time, you can expect to see a big spike.

I typically just follow the GW2spidy charts which usually peaks the highest on Tuesdays.

Traditionally if there is a very popular item returning or there is a really good sale on items such as bank slots and keys (yes keys are popular when on sale), the rush to buy them leads to players cashing in gold for gems at a very high rate over a very short period of time. This leads to a surge in the exchange rate.

The times this happen are Tuesday and Friday, midnight Pacific Time when the store is updated. On patch Tuesday the update happens when the patch drops. There are occasionally special sales like the one we had Black Friday weekend. Now if nothing in demand comes out or go on sale, you won’t see the spike.
