Hello,

for me – empyreal fragments are the most scarce material type for making new ascended gear. I used to get them mostly from dungeon runs, but now that dungeons are less frequented empyreal fragments became hard to come by. Or am I missing something? I have more than twice the amount from dragonite and dust, and the ratio keeps getting worse. Any suggestions are welcome!

Empty fragments also drop from:

• Open world chests (for L80 characters only). There are lists (“on the wiki”:) and farming maps available, e.g. (on the wiki)
• Wintersday Gifts, about 30 fragments per stack of gifts or Trick-or-Treat bags, ~25/stack.
• Silverwastes chest farming, although you get plenty of dragonite and bloodstone too.

Yep thats why I wrote “HoT” in the title. All you mentioned were before HoT release sources of empyreal fragments… but it was really nice of you to guide me to GW2 wiki – otherwise I could not have thought of it myself. -.-

I was hoping there are new sources and wiki may havent been updated yet or something.

But to be more specific about the sources I know:

1. Open world and silverwastes chests: Too few ‘collateral benefits’ (in dungeons/fracs you get: loot/xp, etc.), even more repetitive and boring gameplay than farming dungeons.

2. Fracs: I dont get the new mechanics… I do realize that a fractal run only consists of one instance now. But I never received a daily chest (about which ON THE WIKI it says rewards empyreal fragments) in 5-6 runs I did since HoT release. Not even when I killed bosses that used to be ‘endbosses’ (Mai Trin, Molten Duo, etc.)

3. Dungeons: much harder to find a group now, especially a good group.

So with all these in mind – does one have to accept that these fragments are simply harder to come by now or is there a ‘hack’? Thats what I wanted to know…

I’m pretty sure that there are new sources of fragments, even though I’m pretty sure, too, that nobody really remembers them, since there’s no actual need to farm them. I get around a stack per day from just doing daily stuff.
I’d suggest roaming the metas, since all “chests” (obnoxious pods etc) have ascended mats. Tarir (and the 27 underground chests spawning after the meta) could be useful. You’ll get more bloodstone dust / dragonite ore too, but that can’t really be avoided I fear.

Regarding fractals: There is one daily fractal of a certain level (eg. 14) that you need to do to get the reward. The second daily fractal reward is rewarded for completing three fractals within the same level span (1-20, 21-50, 51-100).
You won’t get a daily reward if you’re simply doing, lets say, Lv.2 if the daily is Lv.12.
Check the fractal achievement tab to get infos on daily fractals and your progression on the 3-fractals-reward.

When Ascended armor first was launched, I too lacked empyreal fragments, and settled on the soloable open world chest runs. I ran 6 chests in Queensdale (3 in Demongrub and others scattered) and 6 in sparkfly fen. There are more chests in those and other zones, but I chose one’s that I could quickly run/kill the guards if any, loot, find next WP, and move on. You can run them once per day per level 80, and I had 5 at that time, so could gather more than 100 in an hour and a half. You go at your own pace and sense of immediate need. You can stop at any time, to do personal chores, etc.

I’m aware of all the options listed in this thread, and at the moment see no reason to change from the open world chest runs for both production rate and convenience of timing.

I had this trouble too, until I spent some time enjoying the Silverwastes and it’s meta (especially the Labyrinth). I’d recommend going there. I didn’t actively farm them, just enjoyed the content, worked on some related collections and generally faffed about. Soon enough I had more than I’ll ever likely need.

Additionally, I haven’t paid much attention of late (mainly because they’re not limiting anymore) but many Heart of Maguuma areas too seem to give Empyreal Fragments. The finer points of just where though? Seems above have more information on that.

I struggled with the same thing. I ended up farming them in SW. It’s not very efficient unless you’re lucky enough to tag along for a chest train. After I had crafted my ascended armor, I got the urge to try WvW one day, and after following the commander tag around for a few hours, I had well over 100 from killing champion NPCs. EoTM seems to be populated enough to do this during most hours of the day.
