Best way to farm silk?
World boss runs are how I get all mine. I salvage everything except the rares (TP those for gold) and that will generally give me a lot of silk to work with. Not sure if it’s the best way but it’s one way.

If you do a few rounds of Silverwastes and salvage all the cloth loot you should get good amounts of silk, along with stuff to sell for gold to buy more silk on the TP.
Play Factions. Kill Am Fah.
The “best” way to farm silk is to do anything you like in game and use the coin you earn to buy it on the TP. This maximizes the amount of fun you have, while minimizing the grind/tedium. The game is designed to favor this method.
Second best if buying up containers that drop silk and selling the rest of the contents. (Best tool for this: wiki + GW2 Shinies’ Breaking Bag .) This involves some time researching to identify the applicable bags and choosing carefully the ones that can be bought in bulk for relatively cheap compared to the value of their contents.
Third best is doing stuff that generates these bags or light armor directly: Silverwastes chest farms, Orrian temples, and Silverwastes event farming (in that order, with chest farming almost always being the fastest method).
Since everyone differs in their definitions of “fun” and “tedious”, your mileage will vary.
tl;dr buy on TP, so you don’t burn out doing stuff you don’t like. Let others farm it for you.

Solid answer. Thank you.
also, if you forge level 80-ish leather greens and blues, you have a chance at getting other armor classes back, which sell for more than the leather will.

Made me chuckle.
