Q:
Best way to level between story quests?
A:
Events are usually an easy/fast way to get exp, the only problem is to find them – one reason people recommend map completion is that it’ll send you around hearts, which tend to have events pop around them on top of the XP you get from doing whatever it is the heart required you to do and the mapping XP.
I’d also recommend gathering every node you come across, since you’ll get exp from that too.
Most classes are good at solo, although some are trickier than others to master (mainly ele and mesmer in my experience). Ranger is fine, though personally I found it a little boring to play. If you want to make things faster, consider using sword or greatsword as your main weapon: melee is nearly always more powerful than range, and it’s a good habit to get into. You may also consider using longbow over shortbow, as the latter is a condition damage-dealing weapon, which while very acceptable would require different stats than sword to work optimally, whereas longbow and sword/gs are both raw power weapons, synergizing better together.
Finally, test out different pets – they don’t all have the same stats and their F2 attack also changes depending on the species.
Everything jackaljag said, plus: ranger sword skills will throw you off cliffs if you are not careful. Ranger was the easiest to level up for me. Always use consumables, even if they don’t have a noticeable effect, for the 2(+10%) exp bonus.
Yarr! I be keeping me pirate runes, Matey. Yarr! You’re welcome. Yarr!
The very fastest map-clearers are elementalists and engineers as both have access to very high bursts and 100% swiftness uptime. Warriors also do relatively well; though they take very slightly longer to kill, their GS also has mobility buffers. Thieves have very high burst as well, but lack the swiftness elementalists and engineers have.
If one is willing to expend the trait points, warriors have access to the +25% speed booast while carrying melee weapons. Main hand sword also has the rather nice Leap attack for closing quickly, which is more reliable than the Great sword Rush, although main hand swords aren’t quite as good in pve. Off hand warhorn is another option for speed boost.
Rangers have the same speed boost with war horns but also the signet that increases speed movement. You can also use Great sword 3 , Swoop, to cover a lot of ground quickly. For some fun, you could also try ranger sword 2, while facing the other way, combine that with lightning reflexes for some serious back somersaults.
