Hello Forums,

This thread is me trying to solve my load time issue.

I currently own 2 different systems, one is the old PC one and a new laptop one that i got recently. What confuses me is that the “old” system which has worse configuration compared to the laptop seems to have superb load times (less than 30 sec) while the laptop has load times that are over 3min and sometimes 5min+.

Below is the system properties of both the systems, i cannot understand how this is possible. I am not so knowledgeable when it comes to computers so i need someone’s help.

I know load times should not bother me much but they seem to have bad results on my game play. how?
It takes me 5min or more to load into a PVP game, and when i do the game immediately kicks me out for “prolonged inactivity” and i get a deserter debuff. Im on 2hr wait time already =(
Secondly it takes over 3-4 min to load into any dungeon, and when i load im kicked out of the party because people think im afk. I cant expect 4 strangers every time to wait 5 min just for me.

OLD PC CONFIGURATIONS:
Intel® Core™ i3-2310M CPU @ 2.10GHZ 2100MHZ, 2 core, 4 logical processor
RAM: 4 GB
64 bit
Windows 7 home premium
Inrel® HD Graphics 3000

NEW LAPTOP CONFIGURATION:
Microsoft Windows 10 Home Single Language
Intel® Core™ i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHz, 2401 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
x64-based PC
RAM: 8.00 GB
AMD Radeon R5 M335

I use the same internet connection for both, i have already tried the “-repair” function for GW2 already, did not help.

NOTE:One piece of information i can provide is that i put “-maploadinfo” to see the loading details on the screen while loading. From what i see on the laptop the game shows that the map loading is 100% complete within 30 sec, but it hangs there for the rest 4-5min.

All help is appreciated.

Thank You

Ok. Limit your framerate to 30, disable shadows and all that jazz, removing nameplates helps also, and if you are really desperate, lower your resolution. That should help to peel off a few minutes off loading times.

Building off what he said. I suggest running both on maximum performance and do some tests there.

Alternatively, try cleaning both systems with anti virus and ccleaner
Even for me this is an interesting mystery. Could also try a clean install of windows 10, it might be a faulty install? Hmm.

And i forgot to mention, windows 10 tends to have “stealth” updates in the backround, that may also impact your connection. Close all the programs that you don’t need trough task manager. Also buy a cooling stand for your laptop you don’t want any overheating happening.

On my 3.5 y.o laptop i had no issues playing the game with a steady 30 fps even on large scale events or wvw, i sometimes still play on it with 0 issues, loading times are under a minute. It may not look as flashy as on my desktop, but it runs smooth.

Problem is almost certainly the interaction between the 6200U iGPU and the R5 M335.

The wait is probably the processor loading up and installing the R5 drivers – you’re laptop probably switches between the two as it sees fit! I am not sure how GW2 handles the loading screen but it could be fooling you’re laptop into switch one way then another.

Unfortunately laptops in this area can be very dependent on the vendor, so check for BIOS or driver updates (these can be particular for the individual laptop vendor rather than AMD – it’s all a bit messy).

If you can go into the BIOS and switch off the R5, if this improves loading then this confirms the cause – note, the R5 will be the PCIe bus GPU. Windows 10 can also do rude things in this area as well – like overriding BIOS settings no matter what!

But 3 to 4 mins is roughly the time it takes to re-install GPU drivers.

Another way to check the problem is to monitor the temperatures of the Processor and GPU noting the exact time you load up – it’s almost the only way of knowing for sure which GPU is actually running.

Also check that you have installed DirectX 9.0x correctly as – again – Windows 10 maybe installing this each and every time.

Try and see if the problem exists in with GW2 in windowed mode or full screen – whatever is different.

Or, play around with the compatibility of the Gw2.exe – for exmaple set it to W7.

Or, run GW2 in Admin Mode.

Suggestions are all harmless.

Since nobody mentioned a Desktop Hard Drive will usually be Faster than a Laptop one. If you are abit adventurous you could upgrade your laptop harddrive to a Solid State Drive, or S.S.D for short

I noticed a significant improvement in load times from moving GW2 install from a slower storage Hard Drive to kitten .D

Unless your laptop came with kitten . D, then you can ignore this post :P
(sorry for the odd format, forum thinks a tech abbreviation is a swear word…)

Switch to the 64 bit client if you haven’t already; with 8 gigs ram my load times even off of a 5400 rpm external drive are almost as fast as the 32 bit client off of an ssd.
